A little under six months in, Torque gleefully welcomes Kirby Prickett in her new role as Editorial Assistant. I first met Kirby at WordCamp San Francisco, the day of Torque’s launch, where Kirby expressed her interest in journalism—and writing about WordPress specifically. We subsequently worked on an article together, and the experience was terrific. WordPress.com’s parent company Automattic is putting its money where its mouth is when it comes to democratizing publishing. Filing two lawsuits under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), Automattic claims that the two parties knowingly submitted fraudulent takedown notices. On the WordPress Blog, Paul Sieminski explained: Through these suits, we’d like to remind our users that we’re doing all we can to combat DMCA abuse on WordPress.com…and most importantly, remind copyright abusers to think twice before submitting fraudulent takedown notices.
