We’re observing the holidays by staying pretty scarce around these parts – which isn’t too hard because this is a pretty quiet season for news and information around WordPress. We want to encourage you though to continue blogging and never ‘publishing,’ even if it’s just in your mind’s eye and head. Always be drafting is what we say around the office. Have a great time and remember the things that matter most. We’ll see all of you guys on the flip-side! And, of course, if you give (or get) anything sweet that’s related to WordPress then let us know! Love to see […]
How to Add a Customized Icon on iOS Devices
As you can see above I’ve added a customized / branded icon on my homescreen on my iPhone 5 – this gives it a much nicer look than a screen capture of the home page when adding it, right? This is increasingly more important as more and more people are browsing your blog and site with mobile devices and choose to save your homepage right on their device. Give them something attractive to look at, especially if it’s going to sit among some other luminary sites! Which is why I encourage you to save WP Daily to your homescreen on your […]
Our Goals for 2013 (and How You Can Help)
One of our objectives with WP Daily is to be as transparent as possible with our community here – in fact, we hold this challenge in pretty high regard because it’s the undergirding of our manifesto; we want you to know what we’re up to so that you can become more intimate with our community. So here are some of our “corporate” goals of 2013 that we’d love for you to help us achieve. Remember, we all win when we create more visibility, more passion, and more adoption of WordPress globally and we want to be a big part of […]
We've Got a Snowstorm on WP Daily…
You may notice a bit of snow on the blog for the holiday season and if you’re curious about what we’re using we’re using the Snow Storm plugin which is customizable in terms of “thickness” of the blizzard, mobile support, and even the ability for the snow to follow your mouse cursor. Legit!
Weekend Projects?
The weekend is practically over *sigh* but there’s still a few hours left (depending on where you’re located on the earth). So, what did you accomplish this weekend in WordPress? Any projects you’ve got done and should share? Any client work? Let us take a look! And, what are you planning on doing this Christmas week? Is this just “another” work week for you (sad!) or are you taking most of it off? What do you have going on?
Are You Greek? Help Out with the Translation Team!
Posted in the Make Polyglots community, @dyrer is looking for some help translating WordPress into Greek. Apparently he used to translate some of it previously but wants to help out even more. His goal? To create a Greek translation team for “fast and accurate” translations of WordPress and themes. So, if you’ve got some time and itching to help out, this might be a simple way to contribute in a big way. Head over to the boards to help and connect.
Sass and LESS Now Available via CSS Editor
Are you a fan of LESS or Sass preprocessors? Because if you are then you’re going to be stoked to find that they are both now available via your CSS Editor on both WordPress.com and your self-hosted solutions (via Jetpack). Yeah, I know, right? That’s a big deal, especially for those that spend a lot of time tweaking, editing, and creating new CSS and styles for their blogs, their clients, and their projects. For the uninitiated, a preprocessor are extensions to CSS to simply allow you to manage your CSS with more ease.
Getty Images Now Using VIP Services
Getty Images, a huge stock photography site, is now using WordPress and Automattic’s VIP Services for it’s blog. This is a sweet example of an implementation since Getty is all about images, design, and presentation aesthetic. Boasting a big hero image and carousel and stylized recent post areas, it’s a good model for how one might build a similar site. Great job here and glad to see them on board!
VaultPress Acquires Code Garage
Big news for Code Garage (and super kudos) as they have been recently acquired by VaultPress which is a relatively similar service in so far as providing backups, security scanning, and assistance for customers in their greatest time of need (e.g. crisis mode when their blog goes down). Peter Butler, one of the founders of Code Garage, will be joining Automattic in this acquisition as well. Matt Mullenweg states that this is a strategic move because the Code Garage team will be able to bring a lot of their experiences that VaultPress can learn from: We think we can bring a […]
