The folks that are developing the awesome new handbooks are continuing to put their heart and soul into the work and we see steady updates on the progress over at make.wordpress on a very consistent basis. I’m stoked to see that a very robust design composite for the new look of the handbook has just been released which includes much of the formatting and design elements that you can expect when you see the final product. Take a look at this bad boy:
Taking Preorders: The WordPress Cycling Kit
We shared nearly 2 months ago that a neat new initiative around cyclists and those who love 2 wheelers would be coming online in a bit and they’ve announced that their store is open! The WordPress Cycling Kit is now open for pre-orders which must get in April 7th, so if you’re considering it you have to purchase soon. What’s neat is that they did eventually get the approval from the WordPress Foundation for the initiative and so it’s backing is secure! The stuff looks great and for those that want to represent WordPress while on the road this is a […]
ThemeForest: 100% GPL, WooThemes to Join
And we all saw this coming. With all the news surrounding Envato, the GPL, and licensing, it was only a matter of time for the official announcement to drop, with the added bonus of having WooThemes join up as a launch partner: We’re happy to announce today that authors on ThemeForest and CodeCanyon can now choose to license their WordPress items through a 100% GPL option. To help us launch this new feature, we’re excited to have one of the most well known and respected theme outfits joining ThemeForest’s ever growing library — WooThemes! This is a day that many […]
We Found Design Crumbs in the Office
When we put out the call to have more people send us stickers to put on our “Friends Locker,” we weren’t joking! And we found some crumbs a’la design this morning as Jake Caputo sent us more than a few for our somewhat lame (but improving) high school-esque locker. He even dug in deep and called us *gasp* nerds…
JavaScript Coding Standards Released
Contributing to WordPress and the greater community is a big reason why we continue to do what we do – we have a lot of thanks to give in terms of the lives that we get to lead and the freedom to build businesses off of the software. It’s great and it’s a reason to give back. Tom, our technical editor here, just released the JavaScript Coding Standard in the WordPress Codex and has been working on it for the last few months: [O]ne of the things about the WordPress Coding Standards that’s always seemed incomplete to me is how little […]
Matt Mullenweg to Host DradCast, Ask Qs!
DradCast is chugging along just fine with them bumping into their 6th episode very soon. In fact, they’ve managed to get Matt Mullenweg to help host the next one which will be broadcast live at 8:00pm EST next Wednesday, the 27th. You’re not going to want to miss it.
A Current Feel on the War for Browsers, 2013
The above graphic really does share so much about what is happening in the current war for the right browser now with Google Chrome being the top player with 37% of the market. To see it’s rise over the last 2 years is impressive, overcoming both Firefox (I am still a big fan) and the long-standing incumbent champion, Internet Explorer. What I am surprised is Safari’s still low adoption rate and growth – it is also a great browser and something I use daily as well.
3.6 Is Just Around the Corner
Something exciting is coming our way. In fact, it’ll arrive on March 27th. It’s the beta release of WordPress 3.6! This is great news as there are some really cool features shipping with 3.6. And for those of us who don’t want to play around with the beta, the official release is scheduled for April 29th. Either way we’re not looking at waiting much longer for the next version of WordPress. So, let’s dive in to what’s new shall we? Here we go!
Why WordPress Is Not Doomed
Last night, John shared a post on Is WordPress Doomed? It’s a good post that’s worth a read and I highly encourage everyone to read the article in question, as well. I’ve debated a long time—as in over 12 hours—on whether or not I wanted to share my opinions on this because is such a sensitive topic, and I don’t want to do any damage to the way the WordPress developer community is perceived. I care about our reputation and I want to have positive discussion with other developers. As someone who builds things for, blogs about, and contributes directly to […]
Envato Updates Marketplace Membership TOS
Envato announced late yesterday that they now have updating TOS for membership into their marketplaces. The changes are “minor” so most people and authors shouldn’t have any issue. Things of note are listed in the announcement but a lot of clarification has been added so that the language isn’t confusing, such as changing “application” to “signing up,” and such things. If you’re a big-time player you’ve most likely reviewed the changes but for the average user you can continue on with your day now.
