How much time have you spent on educating your WordPress clients on how to use WordPress (or even your parents and friends)? Lots of time perhaps – too much time if you’re running a full-blown WordPress-centric business. Well, that’s where WP101 steps in and helps ease the pain of education by providing robust videos and tutorials covering nearly every aspect of WordPress and even technologies (like RSS) that aren’t a part of WordPress. Obviously this covers the bases and saves a lot of people an incredible amount of time – which is why Pagely has begun using their service for […]

An Early Look At Themedemo.co
The fine folks at Themedemo.co were nice enough to give us an early look at their new product, which as I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, allows you to do a rather full demo of a theme before you purchase it. This isn’t just a visual demo where you get screen shots of what it looks like – Themedemo.co actually creates a temporary blog where you have access to the WordPress backend and the full capabilities of whichever theme you chose to demo. Check out our walk through:
WordPress, Vampires, Transylvania, Oh My!
Yes seriously, there is going to be a WordCamp in Transylvania this year. In case, you didn’t know Translyvania is in Romania and contrary to many folk tales (well romantic novels) is not the home of many vampires and a WordPress community looking to host a WordCamp. So, if you like WordPress and love Vampires, this is the WordCamp to attend! Just kidding.
NYC Meetup Gives Back Through Their RSVPs
The creativity and entrepreneurship via the NYC Meetup Group knows no bounds! Steve Bruner has shared that this month is a unique month with the meetup as they have started a new campaign and initiative that seeks to give back to their community: This month at the WordPress NYC meetup, we’re starting something new: WPNYC GIVES BACK. We will raffle off $1 for each user that RSVP’s (i.e. 100 RSVP’s = $100). This money will be split between: 1. One WPNYC member. 2. A WordPress developer that has donated a free theme or plugin to the community (chosen by the member […]
ServerPress DesktopServer Releases v3.5.3
Have you heard of DesktopServer via ServerPress before? Apparently I’ve been under a rock or something because this weekend was the first time I’ve ever heard of it. Drat, because there are a few instances where I could have really used this application. Alas, I was not aware of it at time! What is DeskTopServer? Simple: It gives you the ability to create virtual servers locally for all of your WordPress projects. I’m a big fan of MAMP but the Pro version is the one that allows multiple instances.
Hourly Rate Calculator for WordPress Freelancers
via Brian Krogsgard. Much more simple than other online systems like this. It might be helpful for those who are contracting or are getting started with their contract work to figure out a decent price to charge.
Open Letter to Ryan Imel: Can I Get Paid, Please?
Like many others in the WordPress community, in recent years I’ve been a great fan of WPCandy, enjoying the news, comment and quality reporting it has been bringing to the WordPress community. So — back in September 2011, when Ryan Imel (the guy behind the whole WPCandy show) launched an invite-only super-duper bespoke WordPress ad service, Pressed Ads, I was naturally interested. At the time my site WPShout was running BuySellAds and whilst those ads brought in a reliable income, the ads took up a lot of space in the site’s sidebar and switching to something which brought me the […]

Dove Calls Out Envato's Photo Tuts (and Others)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0JF4QxPpvM&feature=youtu.be You’ve probably seen this video being shared a few times already but if you haven’t you’ll notice an Envato property being used as an example of “one” of those Photoshop-centric sites that are helping graphic artists mask “real beauty” with filters and actions. What their campaign is simply about is reminding us that our real beauty doesn’t have to be altered.
