It’s all hands on deck for the Documentation team at WordPress! On Tuesday, the WordPress documentation team met to discuss the brand new creation of contributor handbooks. The Contributor Handbooks are being put together by the Make Documentation team, spearheaded by Siobhan McKeown and with the help of the WordPress community, myself included. The general purpose of the handbooks is this. To provide step by step guides for users who want to get involved in developing and contributing to WordPress, no matter how they choose to do so. Each handbook will cover a specific area of WordPress contribution and walk […]
Behind the Scenes: Startup and Long Days
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiN4fUIxnJY It’s been a long and very difficult day but I love my team and what we get to do! Sleep tight my WordPress friends! See you tomorrow for another full and very exciting day. Rock it out.
Even More Pin for Your Pinterest (and WordPress Site)
Pinterest – man, that is one site that I’m not that into. I get the attraction and I understand the utility, but I haven’t found a personal workflow or reason for me to necessarily join it in earnest. But I do know that Pinterest can provide a motherlode of traffic when done well. I know this from a personal blog project that leverages pinterest really well – and the traffic statistics are absolutely mind-blowing. So it doesn’t surprise me that WordPress.com has announced Pinterest verification in addition their Google and Bing verification systems. All you have to do is the following […]
VaultPress Simplifies FTP/SFTP, SSH Access
VaultPress had some big news just a few weeks ago relate with their acquisition of CodeGarage and many have wondered how the two will continue to co-exist and/or be combined since their services can be considered very similar. Regardless of what eventually happens (it’s reported that things for customers will be seamless and uninterrupted) their products are continued to be refined and updated, just like VaultPress’ recent update to their system for accessing and connecting to WordPress sites: We’ve recently made this much easier to do when you sign up or add a new site by asking for the credentials […]
Blogging, Editorial Internship
I have hired so many people in my lifetime that I feel weird creating a job requisite because they typically are simply boring and have all this extra fluff that means nothing but seems “standard,” right? I mean, when was the last time you read a typical “REQ” and was like: Wow, it sounds amazing! I want to dedicate my most precious and limited resource to this endeavor and business! I’m applying now! Yeah, me neither. So, I won’t create one like that for you and instead I’ll just talk about the role and how pumped I would be if […]
WordCamp Atlanta, March 15-16, 2013
I couldn’t be more stoked to share with you guys WordCamp Atlanta 2013, which is happening on March 15-16 in the Loudermilk Center. The reason I’m calling attention to this is probably obvious – WordCamp Atlanta is our hometown WordCamp and not only am I part of the leadership committee this year representing 8BIT and WP Daily, we’re having the After Party for speakers, sponsors, and VIP at the WP Daily offices, just half a mile away (Map Here)! It’s going to be amazing and I hope you can attend!
Windows Phone 1.9: Featured Images, Full Screen Editor
Windows Phone users rejoice as the 1.9 release that we talked about 6 days ago is finally available via the Windows Phone Store. This release features a 2 big functionalities that bloggers and site owners are going to really like: Featured Images – Now you can upload a featured image to your blog post (as long as your active theme supports this feature). We use featured images here on this blog and it’s part of our consistent workflow and design aesthetic. More and more blogs are using this feature so I wouldn’t call it a “must have” but it’s pretty up […]
Behind the Scenes: A Typical Editorial Morning
One of the things that I’m looking at doing is providing a somewhat “behind the scenes” look at how we’re growing WP Daily in a hope to demystify our efforts as well as encourage you to become even more involved (because we need your help)! We have had a blast in the last month of just writing content, curating it, and building a neat following here – so much so that it’s become a big part of what we want to do in 2013. Just like many startup ideas when we launched it as an explicit experiment without any true intentions […]
5 Things to Look For in 3.6: Revisions, Menus, Editorial Flow, More!
Development on WordPress 3.6 has been picking up some speed as features have been getting locked in and conversations started about what the big release should have in it. As always, conversations will continue to expand and new features will definitely continue to evolve but here are some of the top conversations already begun:
Greater Accountability Comes to Make, Volunteering
One of the biggest challenges that any organization has of any size is the issue of accountability and the challenge of the disparity between those who are willing to suggest new ideas and those that will eventually implement them. In other words, it’s so much easier to suggest some new idea, some suggestion, some new initiative than actually helping out and putting your feet and hands where you mouth is, especially in a volunteer-based and lead organization. But that’s what WordPress is all about – we are a community-led and founded ecosystem where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and […]
