Yes, that is the “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” gif that many of us have experienced and it’s a part of the new Big Internet Museum that claims to be the world’s first museum with a diverse collection dedicated to the Internet. This is how they describe themselves: We seek to educate and inspire visitors from all over the world with an ever-growing collection about the Internet and the World Wide Web. Not only for this current generation, but also for generations to come. Remember the sound of a 56K dial-up modem? Your children probably don’t. In fact, chances are they don’t […]
VaultPress Adds Easier Navigation to Backups via Calendar View
VaultPress, one of the best real-time backup solutions for your WordPress blog, has updated their usability by adding a calendar view for those looking to revert back to a period of time. Before this it was a little bit difficult to pinpoint exactly what the right backup was if you were in a pinch. This intuitive interface is a much-needed addition to an already incredible service: We’ve added a list of calendars to your VaultPress dashboard. You can click around from day-to-day and see all of the backups for your site, restoring (or downloading) any one as needed. Each day […]
Jon Cave, Helen Hou-Sandí Level Up Access
@sillygrampy Something like “ohmygodohmygodwhatifibreaksomething”? 😀 — Helen Hou-Sandí (@helenhousandi) December 18, 2012 Congrats to Jon Cave and Helen Hou-Sandí who both have received core commit access, the former as a permanent committer and the latter being a guest (it’s worth noting that Jon has had core commit via guest but is now joining the core team with @koopersmith and @dd32). This is a great move as the team continues to expand the talent pool with individuals who have proven their commitment to WordPress and core development. We’re stoked to see it happen and want to wish them the very best – no need […]
Why I Love the iOS WordPress App
Comments – they are the lifeblood of any great community-centric blog. Managing them, curating them, editing and spamming them is all a part of the process. As a result, choosing the best management system is very important. That’s probably why I really enjoy using the WordPress apps on my iPhone and iPad and the feature highest on my list of “likes” is the comments. It’s way simpler to use than having to launch your site in your browser, possibly have to log in, navigate to Comments and then reply. Now I do like the new addition of the comments in […]
iThemes Builder Turns 3, Looks Toward eCommerce
It’s been an exciting year for iThemes and one of their flagship products, Builder, which has recently turned 3 years old. For those that are fairly new to WordPress that’s quite a bit of time considering how rapidly things change and how many theme shops and products come and go. Builder, which has always had the intent of making layout design and construction easy, has grown in popularity due to its ease of use and customization – something that many people require since they do not know any coding or software development. And to be honest, most people will find […]
WordPress Begins 3.6 Release Cycle in January
The work is never done, is it? With the recent release of 3.5 the team is taking a small break and coming back in January to start working towards 3.6. But that doesn’t mean that people can’t start bringing ideas to the table and submitting tickets. Andrew Nacin has already put up some thoughts about the newer jQuery 1.9 Beta 1 to trunk: The release cycle for WordPress 3.6 isn’t going to start until January, but we can of course start to drop in some early things before then. (This worked out nicely before the start of 3.5.) With that […]
Matt Mullenweg: Forbes 30 Under 30
Matt Mullenweg is named one of the Forbes 30 Under 30, an illustrious list dedicated to some of the more compelling and influential young-guns who are shaking things up in their respective industries. Without question, Matt totally deserves the honor and sits among some very well-known names. Congrats and well done! We’re so glad you were inspired those 9 or so years ago to fork a piece of software and build something game-changing.
Permanent WordPress Tattoos
Ever since I published a small post on Andrew Norcross’ killer tattoo I’ve gotten some links sent to me about other art done that’s just as cool. Here are some sweet WordPress-related tattoos that show off some true zeal and passion:
WordPress.com Stats Now Show Unique Visitors
There’s been a neat update to all of our stat packages which now showcase unique visitors as well as overall pageviews – this is still available to self-hosted users but it doesn’t appear to be active in your actual self-hosted admin – you’ll have to check out your WordPress.com stats dashboard directly to see the figures. I’m sure they’ll eventually bring this view directly into your own self-hosted blog but for now just head over to the other dash: Hover over a day, week, or month in the chart to see how many views and unique visitors you had. To […]
Where Do I Start with WordPress?
This weekend, we received the following tweet basically asking “where do I start with WordPress?” @wpdailyco If I want to get serious about WP code, where do I start? I got basics, but I go deeper and feel overwhelmed! Tips? — Josh Wagner (@jbwagner) December 15, 2012 Love this kind of stuff! Not only is it the kind of tweet that we can provide insight on, but it’s something that you guys in the community can chime in on as well. Remember, our Manifesto specifically states: Collaboration, not Competition Community, not Agendas Friendship, not Formality People, not Personalities Participation, not […]
