Offering support for WordPress plugins is a tricky business. I consider it extremely important for plugin developers to offer some level of support, but it can be hard to figure out just how much. Fortunately, there have been several conversations surrounding support. Tom McFarlin in particular, wrote a series of posts discussing support options for both free and premium plugins. I think it’s worthwhile to keep the conversation going, and take a fresh look at these. Free Support Support for your plugins requires an investment of your own time and resources, and no small one at that. But here’s the […]
Co-Creating A Better Support Experience
Too often, product support is seen as simply a way to correct users who just can’t seem to do things properly. But what if we saw support as a way to educate users, and more importantly find the the difference between a developer’s concept of what a plugin or other product can do and what users think it can do? If these two perceptions are different, then it is a clear sign that a new approach is needed for the support user experience. Redesigning a support system is an opportunity to not only better educate users about how to use […]

Fix My WP: Support On The Cheap Or Cheap Support?
Fix My WP was submitted to us for news the same day we covered Fantasktic, another WordPress support site. Coincidence? I think not. Both sites offer one-time support (Fatasktic just added a monthly support option), albeit for very different prices. Fantasktic charges an almost flat fee of $99, which is great. Fix My WP on the other hand charges a truly crazy flat rate of $30! I almost don’t know what to do with this. $30, really? It kind of scares me that they would charge so little. I didn’t intend for this article to become a comparison article but […]
Interview with Daniel Espinoza, Support Ninja @ WooThemes
We’re having a blast this week with WordCamp starting up tomorrow and our Jelly Event today (still going on)! We’ve met a bunch of folks that we had just known online only and now real tweeps are becoming peeps. Or something like that. As a result, we’re trying to sit down and catch up with as many people as possible and even having an interview or two if we can. This first one was very “off the cuff” with Daniel Espinoza, a Support Ninja @ WooThemes, blogs about development and business at http://danielespinoza.me and he and his wife are living a Life with […]
Premium Themes: Buy Them Based on Community
There are so many great themes out there. How on earth do you choose the right one? I think it’s almost like buying a home or a car really. You need to come up with your list of most desired features, nice-to-haves, and most likely price. This list is different for most, but there’s something I think should be on everyone’s list that is most likely over-looked. Community: I think that community should be at the top of the list. I would argue that it should be in your top 3 at least. For me personally it looks like this: SEO […]
2012 Theme and Support Stats for WordPress.com
After culling the stats from 2012 for WordPress.com I thought I’d do another round of stats related to those that run theme shops and are considering the behaviors of bloggers in light of their business model. I know that my team is constantly thinking about these elements so that we might not only refine our business strategy but also our product offering with our WordPress Theme, Standard, which is available on WordPress.com. The first one is a powerful signal that’s worth thinking about for your WordPress business:
