“Flat design” is all the rage now especially with the pending release of iOS 7 that’s going to be sporting an all-new look that’s got many people talking. Personally I’m neither here nor there on it and can appreciate both it’s appeal as well as the previous focus on skeuomorphic-centric design. But if you’re headed in that direction then perhaps you want to have a few sweet resources along the way, especially if your clients are asking you now to design in this way. Check out these 10 that I’ve collected recently:
Review: PixelKit UI for Lazy Designers
User Interface features and kits…these are not the most popular part of any web designer’s job. And if you are a lazy designer – well, at least someone who hates the time that is required to get UI kits done – you are always on the lookout for a better way. After all, the ROI from icons, slicers, controls, buttons and the other bits and pieces that make each project unique is rarely all that it should be. The time, the details, and the “getting it right” cannot really repay you in full. Of course, you might rely on outsourced […]
WP for iPhone 3.6 Right Around the Corner… New UI?!
As Jorge Bernal shares, the WordPress mobile for iPhone v3.6 is right around the corner as long as some translations get approved and moved forward! Here’s what you can expect:
25 Free UI / GUI Kits, Files for Your Use
We know that a bunch of you are designers and that you’ve got mad skills the pay the bills. In fact, you probably won’t need most of what this roundup has to offer since you can actually create them yourself, gosh darn it! But for those like me who are strictly developers (no unicorn here folks) we need all the help we can get and so I love to collect and save free GUI and UI kits that I find on the internet. Have at it folks and enjoy – give credit where credit is due!
New WordPress Admin UI Easter Egg on WordPress.org?
I hopped onto WordPress.org this morning and found a distinctly new header:
DevPress Releases v0.2 of New Dashboard Look
We shared the news a little while ago about Tung Do’s DP Dashboard and it got a lot of attention as well as both a handful of “heck yeahs!” and “um, I hate this” responses. Tung has taken all of that on the chin and responded very positively, continuing to move forward in his project and taking the great pieces of feedback that was received in the v0.1 release. This one, called Haymaker, sees an incredible update with the design and actually does see some “Wow!” factor in terms of look and feel. This new admin theme, called Hunter, see auto-updates, media […]
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
This past week has been an absolute blur – busyness hit an all-time high today as I had a keynote at a conference early in the morning, my daughter’s soccer game, and 3 back-to-back-to-back birthday parties and then my wife had a girl’s night out while I took care of the kids. Whew. I’m drained. But it’s a “good” type of drained, you know? Hope you’re having a great weekend yourself. With that, here’s your Weekend WordPress Roundup:
UI, GUI PSDs for Your Next iOS App
I’m in the middle of building a small WordPress-centric iOS app and I’ve been plugging silently away at it for the last few months. Actually, it’s been brewing for almost six months now but it’s been in active development for about three. It’s not public (yet) and I’m still not sure where it’ll land but I’m actively wire-framing, concepting, and laying the groundwork for it from a development perspective. As a result, I’m bumping up against sweet resources (both paid and free) that might be useful for some of you, even if you’re not looking to do any iOS application […]
MP6 – Top Secret Plugin???
We found a secret plugin in today’s roundup and I wanted to spend a litte more time digging into it. The name of the plugin is MP6 and the author is Matt Mullenweg. It seems to be a plugin that is dedicated to UI changes for WordPress 3.6. Simplifying the wp-admin UI is a challenging task, as flattening the icons showed us when you improve one thing it just makes all of the other out of date elements stand out more. Trunk isn’t terribly well-suited for UI iteration, so this plugin is a chance for us to rapidly iterate in […]
