I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. Did any of you go to a WordPress Birthday party yesterday? Any plugin or theme authors make it to the Atlanta party last night? Now the real work begins as they complete their partner awards and press on toward launch! Oh yeah. It’s going to be grand. Ghost, the new blogging platform that will attempt to rival other blogging platforms, including WordPress in many ways, has more than reached its funding goal today. Now the wait begins to see what the product will become and how it will stack up against competitors.
With the recent news of Tumblr being purchased by Yahoo! for $1.1 billion dollars there have been a ton of comparisons between that purchase and many other blogging services. Naturally, WordPress has been among those comparisons. But WordPress, as a software, is not like Tumblr because it’s open source software whereas Tumblr is not, so the closer comparison is really between Automattic, the largest commercial company and Tumblr as a company.
