We’ve talked a lot about various WordPress meetups and events here on WP Daily. We’re obviously big fans (will you be at WordCamp Atlanta?) of what you guys are doing in your local communities to support and push WordPress even further. Case in point: In addition to my local WordPress Users Group, there’s a local WordPress Advanced Users Group, as well as a local WordPress Developers Group. But here’s the problem: We’re all a bit fragmented. And not just “we” as in those of us who are local, but “we” as in citizens of the Internet. People share their notes […]
Happy Tables – WordPress For Restaurants
Last week, we published – and discussed – the feasibility of WordPress as an application framework, or at least a foundation for web applications. Though we’ve already covered a variety of apps built with WordPress, we’re attempting to be as comprehensive as possible in sharing every single application that is built on the application. Today: Happy Tables.
Using WordPress For Application Development
One of the things that we’ve been discussing more and more here on WP Daily – and in the rest of the WordPress community, for that matter – is viewing WordPress and a framework or platform for developing web applications. Heck, we’ve even begun to share a few web applications that are built specifically using WordPress. The thing is, we’ve not actually spent time talking about why WordPress is a viable application platform, how it compares to other frameworks that are already available, and how to actually being using WordPress for Application Development.
Hello Dolly: Episode 3 – Indie Gamers, Vetting Plugins, and Jake Caputo
In the latest episode of Hello Dolly, we set two new records for our budding podcast: We featured our first guest: Sir Jake Caputo We recorded our longest episode clocking in right at an hour and 12 minutes. Though the episode is a bit longer than the usual (though some of you have been asking for longer episodes), we’re eager for you guys to check it out.
Companies Using WordPress For Applications
There’s a growing movement in the WordPress development community which has begun to see WordPress as a platform for not only building blogs and sites, but for using WordPress for Applications, as well. It’s near impossible to capture all of the services that are doing this (though please contact us if you are!), we do what we can to feature them here and to highlight why this is significant especially within the context of our favorite platform. Personally, I’m interested in this and I dig covering other people who are doing just that.
Hello Dolly: Episode 2 – Publishing Platforms, Interns, and Popovers
The team’s been having a lot of fun recording Hello Dolly and we’re stoked about the comments, emails, tweets, and phone calls we’ve been receiving (yes, even the pranks!). In this episode, John, Chris, Jared, and I all sit down to talk about the upcoming WordCamp Atlanta, some of our thoughts on other publishing platforms (such as Tumblr and Svbtle), and take a call from Chris Brogan about pop overs and permission based marketing. For a a more detailed recap, be sure to review the show notes and check out the links we’ve provided; otherwise, listen up, tune in, or do […]
Call Hello Dolly!
If you were to call Dolly, what’d be the first thing you’d say to her? Hello, of course.
How To Get Started Podcasting
By now, we’ve released a couple of episodes of Hello Dolly with several other episodes in the pipeline. Ultimately we’re looking to publish at least one episode per month. Once we’re in the new office, it should be easier to release more than one per month. At any rate, I thought it might be worth sharing how we record our podcasts – the software, the hardware, and the community – in hopes that it gives a look behind the scenes of the podcast, but more so that it may help you guys jump start your own podcasting efforts.
Bacon Ipsum – Better Lorem Ipsum Built on WordPress
Anyone that’s done any type of development for clients is familiar with the Lorem Ipsum generators that are out there. If you’re not familiar, suffice it to say that Lorem Ipsum generators are utilities that designers and developers use to generate place holder text. It’s simply meant to give a look and feel of what the website will look like once the user has populated the text. One of the more popular applications for doing this is Bacon Ipsum.
My Moving Checklist
Checking out the various blogs, themes, plugins, and other work that people are doing with WordPress is always fun, but as WordPress grows as a true framework for application development, it’s really interesting to see what developers are doing. My Moving Checklist is a killer example of a web application built on WordPress.
