With the growing industry of eCommerce and WordPress it’s always good to keep in mind many of the solutions that have not only come before us but also the growing open source community around it as a whole. There are just as many new players entering the space as any other industry and keeping tabs on what’s being done right (and wrong) is a good idea for all of us in WordPress land. For example, take a look at this full stack open source solution:
IT Jobs: Growth and Pay [Infographic]
Information technology. I cringe at times when I hear this because for a time “IT” was once considered the global umbrella term for all of web design, web development, and anything internet-related. I suppose in some cultures it still does. *Shudder* But for many of us we have a solid background coming right out of the IT-realm and it’s how we first interfaced with WordPress and how we found a love and passion for online publishing. I know many of my friends who are still stuck in cubefarms all across the US who love WordPress as much as their IT-job. Ok, […]
Macaw: Code-Savvy Web Design Tool
Stop writing code. Start drawing it. You get stopped for a moment when you first read it. Huh? Really? That’s what Macaw is trying to do with their app and tool that hopes to close the gap between what you see and what happens underneath the hood, so to speak.
New Online Course: How to Build a Startup
I’m a super-fan of startups and spend as much time with other startups that I possibly can – even last night I was with our local Atlanta iOS Meetup group and we talked, among other things, starting an iOS-based company. (Yes, it’s totally ok for WordPressers to have passions outside the WordPress-centric software development world! You knew that, of course…) But the startup world is seeing more and more WordPress-related ventures and that’s super-exciting because it means that WordPress is getting the attention that it deserves in many respects as being a viable business foundation for entrepreneurs and startup heads. The principles […]
Open for Voting: A Better Planet Feed
We’ve covered this initiative previously and I’m excited to see that Oli’s continuing to build steam and make good on his promise to deliver a better feed and curated experience for everyone. Now, he’s opened up some voting for including a few other notable blogs, like the following: WP Force Pippins Plugins Chris Lema Winning WP Bob WP WP Teach Matt Report WP Daily Themes I am personally a fan of a few of these and not a super-fan of others but the community will ultimately decide.
Smashing Library Deal – 20% Off!
I’ve been a fan of Smashing Magazine for a long time and most of their stuff is, well, just smashing I suppose! I had too, I’m sorry. They’ve got a sweet deal on their entire library right now for $79 – yeah, that’s right, for $79. That’s an insane deal on some killer content:
A New Dash for WPcom, and Windows Phone 2.2?!
Things are being put together quickly this week and launched as a new WordPress.com dashboard has been released publicly (which many of you have already experienced). So, the question is: How do you like it?
Introducing: The WordPress Pros Network
We’ve been noodling over this concept for a while now and even introduced the idea months ago among our contributors who always get a bit of an inside scoop to what we’re doing at WP Daily (another great reason to contribute, I might add). If you’ve been around for some time then you’ve seen another version of this somewhere else, a long time ago. We’re bringing the concept back and taking a stab at it with another MVP, just like our Job Board that was launched a few weeks ago (that’s doing awesome, btw, thanks for asking)! Take a look:
Will Ghost Pick Up Where WordPress Left Off?
In an already-fast circulating article John O’Nolan shares via FastCompany his candid thoughts on how Ghost is going to “pick up the mantle” that WordPress has put down: There is no longer such a strong notion that WordPress is “just a blogging platform,” because it’s actually no longer a blogging platform at all. Matt Mullenweg himself now says that the future of WordPress is as a “web operating system.” The state of online publishing is clear. All around us we see new platforms popping up, growing, and trying to fill the very large shoes which WordPress has left behind. These […]
ProcessWire: An Award Winning OS CMS
Have you heard of ProcessWire? I’ve heard of it a number of times as it’s crossed my desk and I’ve continued to ignore it somewhat as I’ve had more pressing things (get it…?) to attend to. But the darn thing won’t die and keeps winning awards – so at long last I was able to sit down with it this past weekend and just walk through some of the demo videos and documentation. The result? Mixed. But, comparing it to WordPress I’ve found a lot that I like about it, especially since WordPress has transitioned from calling itself strictly a […]
