Yes, this is a bit random and not necessarily linked to WordPress but heck, all of us work with WordPress have to deal with wifi issues, right? So on occasion I come across some neat apps and tools that just make sense to share. And besides, today is Hump Day and we do things differently on Hump Day, right? Or maybe wrong… oh, whatever.
iThemes Enters eCommerce Space with Exchange
The biggest news in the eCommerce space isn’t Shopify with their v2 being released yesterday but rather iThemes and their new entry in the growing shopping space with Exchange. And they were greeted with many votes of confidence and praise, even from existing competitors. As one person mentioned, this is what’s so great about the WordPress community because we can pat each other on the back despite our commercial interests: Competitors who treat each other with respect because they understand that the culture of the community they’re in doesn’t do competition the way other communities do it. iThemes on-going challenges will […]
ZippyKid Drops WishList Member, GPL Issue?
ZippyKid shared an announcement yesterday that I had to sit on for a moment to understand exactly what the big deal was (if there was any big deal to be had). Vid Luther, founder of ZippyKid shared that they are no longer supporting Wishlist Member for a number of reasons: Performance: Once a membership site goes around 20,000 members and about 100 concurrent sessions, the system starts to bog down. Lack of Transparency: They can’t see the code, so they can’t find ways to improve it. Support: The support for the product is non-responsive Caching: Wishlist works better with APC object […]
WP101 Goes International, Spanish
This is fantastic news that came across our wire late yesterday as we received word that WP101, the well-known WordPress tutorial site, has released their tutorials in spanish. The challenge was obvious as they had once considered just doing subtitles instead of a true voiceover but to give that authentic feel they decided to invest in the latter:

Shopify Announces v2.0, 60+ Features
With over 60 new features to the new back-end admin existing Shopify users will be in for a real treat (if they haven’t already enjoyed the experience already). Although they’ve been in active beta their announcement this morning brings the new features full-bore for the world to experience and use. The customers on the front-end won’t know any difference but shop owners will without question. A few features of note:
WPMU Changes (Increases) Pricing Structure
The guys over at WPMU are changing things up a bit, literally, as they’ve announced a new pricing for their premium service that’s going to see an increase for membership. It’s a change that’s been a long time in the making since the last time they updated their pricing was a literal 4 years ago: We’re going to remove quarterly and annual accounts – from next week all new accounts will be monthly only. And as a result a monthly account with unlimited updates and support to unlimited domains and the top end support you are used to now will […]
John McKenna: WordPress Beyond the Wheelchair
Want to be inspired today? Want to reassess your excuse for not blogging and publishing? Then you need to check out John McKennas and Yan Zhang’s presentation on how WordPress is inspiring diversity and how he’s gone beyond the wheelchair to impact thousands. I love this via John early in the presenation: WordPress has enabled people to have a voice. Is there any more clearer of a truth? It doesn’t matter where you are and how you were born:
WordPress for iOS Sees Major Design Overhaul, 3.6
Just as we had shared previously about the upcoming release it’s finally here and many of you have already downloaded and updated your apps on your iDevices. 3.6 boasts a crazy-new UI and it’s one that may herald a significant uptick of usage (hopefully) as the overall mobile experience is deemed more appropriate and better by the masses. Because not only is the design updated, the experience of getting your blog setup and ready to publish is also updated (and better) as well:
Xanga Being Rebooted… Using WordPress?!?
This is the most interesting news I’ve heard in a long time when it comes to blogging platforms, and it’s especially personally because Xanga is the first CMS-based and web-powered blogging system that I ever committed to for any serious amount of time. When I first started blogging back in 2001 it was just uploading via FTP. Later that year I encountered Xanga and I was hooked as this was much easier that uploading individuals HTML files one by one. I was the first to sign up for their “lifetime” account and blogged my heart out for years on the service. […]
