We enjoy “doing things up” a bit here at WP Daily and we love having great fun with family, friends, and pretty much anyone who loves WordPress. WordCamp Atlanta 2013 seems like it was forever ago but that’s probably because we’ve been so freaking busy since the conference ended, getting back into the grind and trying to catch up on all that time that we lost planning the event! One thing we were still waiting on was a set of photos from our VIP / Sponsor Afterparty that included a photobooth – and they finally arrived yesterday for us to […]
VIP Sees 100K Commits, and Growing
VIP has been doing great this year with more and more clients coming on board to join the ranks of elite VIP customers (see a few new companies that joined here). They are continuing to innovate and share their experiences (have you signed up for the VIP Dev Workshop?!) with others. They recently shared that Time, Inc., one of their larger VIP clients, made history with their 100,000th commit: Our WordPress.com VIP clients commit and deploy code daily, and often development teams will commit several times a day to keep up with their changing site features and improvements. We do several […]
Blogging with Evernote? You Can with Postachio!
I’ll come right out and say it – I’m not a fan of Evernote. I know, I know. Keep your sticks and rocks to yourself! I just haven’t found it to be conducive to my particular workflow and to be honest I’m not interested in keeping and documenting everything – there is something powerful about forgetting information but I won’t go into that right now. But, for those that are super-fans may want to take a moment out of their day and take a look at this new app that allows you to literally blog via Evernote. And after spending a […]
Getting Ready for WordCamp Miami 2013!
WordCamp Miami kicks off in only a few more days and it’s looking to be pretty awesome. This will by my first year in Miami for WordCamp (I’m a previous and future speaker at WordCamp Austin) and I can’t wait. With 33 speakers, 47 sessions, lightning talks, keynotes, and a host of other activities it promises to be an epic feast of WordPress knowledge and networking. There’s so much going on it’s hard to decide what I’m looking forward to most but here’s my pick for top 3 events so far.
Scott Berkun Goes Pantless, That Mother******!
I had to, I’m sorry. I found a very old interview featuring Scott Berkun who was asked the following question (and his response): Which words or phrases do you most overuse? My friends would say its mother*****r. But I don’t think this word can be overused. My type of guy.
Microlancer Launches: Budget Creative Services
Envato piqued our interest a little while back when they were sharing that they had a new project lined up for creative services and it’s finally here. Microlancer, a “fast and affordable” creative services offering is not all that unlike the very popular 99Designs where designers can bid on creative work. But there are some key differences and the biggest one is that you get to choose the designer or provider before you start developing your creative brief. In other words, you can check out the providers first and then move forward strongly with one in mind. There are natural benefits […]
How to Register Custom Sidebars in Genesis
The Genesis Framework is probably the most designer and developer friendly WordPress theming framework for WordPress. Genesis makes it easy to change the look and feel of your site with little code. Changing layouts and adding sidebars are easy. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to register custom sidebars Genesis style.
Mark Ghosh Leaves Weblog Tools Collection
One of the first blogs that I ever subscribed to that had consistent content aimed squarely at the WordPress user and developer was Weblogtoolscollection – it had not only great content but a growing and active community of sharing and collaboration. It has since become a staple within the WordPress community and one of the largest sources of news, historically. For those that have been around for awhile you know that it has slowed down a pitch and is no longer the dominant news source for all things WordPress – although still very valuable with hundreds of articles that have historical […]
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
Yet another incredibly busy week for us at WP Daily and the rest of the 8BIT team – as much as we hate to admit it, we’re still somewhat recovering from WordCamp Atlanta that finished a few weeks ago – all those calls and meetings and things that we had hoped to get done were pushed back and we’re finally knocking them out, one-by-one. But we’ll get there. I’m sure of it. Without further ado, here’s a look at the past week and some of the stories that we weren’t able to cover explicitly:
Behind the Scenes: Sony, Japan, and Headphones
One of the things that are absolutely essential to my personal workflow is music – I’ve shared here, here, and especially here about this in the past. There’s almost no time where there isn’t some music playing in our office or in our own personal eardrums. I tweeted the other day though my particular headphones that I use and I got enough responses asking me what they are in particular that I decided to share it via a post. The issue is I spend an hour of time trying to actually find the exact pair that I own and sadly they are […]
