Hey everyone, Cam here. As of yesterday I am the newest foot soldier for WP Daily. I’ve already been mocked for my choice of profile photo on SocialCast (who hates on a clone trooper?) so I know this is going to be a great ride. Honestly, it’s nice to not be treated with kid gloves by your new bosses. It shows me they expect a certain level of quality, execution, and conviction in the work we do. It’s a fast paced culture but I can already tell that the team is tight knit, welcoming, and among other things very entertaining. […]
Behind the Scenes: Move In Day…?!
If it’s not move-in day then at least it’s “build-all-the-stuff” day. But, I think it is. I’m sitting here in our brand-spankin’ new WP Daily Editorial Offices with clean floors and empty space, ready to be used. As we’ve shared previously in our office build-out, our hopes are to create an environment where we can not only build great products but also create a publishing haven for not just ourselves but also for anyone visiting the Atlanta airspace. That’s right, we would love for you to visit us if you’re in Atlanta as we’ll have more than a few chairs and desks for […]
WordCamp Miami Creates Best TShirt Offer, EVER.
The folks over at WordCamp Miami either have an incredible sense of humor or they are utter geniuses (oh wait, they admitted the former). Regardless of what you might think you must simply check out their unbelievable offer for their community and conference attendees with their one-of-a-kind t-shirt design titled “White Screen of Death“:
New Look for Mobile Start Screen, Sign On?
I have yet to fully convert to any mobile blogging application on the market simply because the experience hasn’t been very stellar, besides the features and functions that I need to be successful. But, I want to believe that we can move there and I want to be converted, if possible, since I don’t like to carry my MacBook Air everywhere (although I’m desperately in love with this machine). So when the mobile team pushes out new concept work I’m very interested to see what’s cooking in the mobile kitchen, sotospeak. This time it appears that there were some neat concepts […]
WordPress Cycling Kit – Sign Up!
Are you kidding me? Nope – and you should definitely sign up to this creative initiative to get some sweet WordPress-sponsored gear when you head out on your daily ride. The Project WP Cycle is completely legit as they are looking to get official backing by the WordPress Foundation for their poetry in motion initiative (clever). As someone who does cycle on occasion (I started mid last year) I wouldn’t mind this at all. The costs are looking to be around $48 if they can get the momentum around it: A fondness for speedy, efficient, lightweight systems, with the freedom to head […]
Companies Using WordPress For Applications
There’s a growing movement in the WordPress development community which has begun to see WordPress as a platform for not only building blogs and sites, but for using WordPress for Applications, as well. It’s near impossible to capture all of the services that are doing this (though please contact us if you are!), we do what we can to feature them here and to highlight why this is significant especially within the context of our favorite platform. Personally, I’m interested in this and I dig covering other people who are doing just that.
Behind the Scenes: Maybe… Move In Week?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htxjBY7Y8us&feature=youtu.be As you may have seen we are sooooooooooooo close to moving into our new office space and I can’t wait – but there are a few things left to do before we can fully get situated. The big thing is that we’ve got internet wired, firewall established, and dedicated IP provisioned. Oh yeah.
Goodbye WP Tavern – We Shall Miss You Jeff!
WP Tavern – we shall miss you greatly! I saw the tweet and I couldn’t believe it – after an incredible run Jeff Chandler is hanging up the digital spurs and moving on to bigger and better things. I’m not exactly sure where the greener pastures are but with his gumption and resolve that we all saw when he built the site up. Even though I wrote a good bye post when WPTavern was sold, Friday marks the day when I'm officially gone from the community. — wptavern (@wptavern) January 23, 2013 It’s been a great run and there have […]
jQuery Website: Now Powered by WordPress
Last week, the folks over at jQuery announced that they have open sourced their entire website, including content, and made it avaliable on GitHub. And even more exciting, the jQuery website now runs on WordPress! Of course, being the creative hackers that they are, this is no ordinary WordPress install. The jQuery team sought out a way to make it easy for people to edit content without having to awkwardly access the admin panel or download the entire site for local devlopment. jQuery.com content exists in static form for the most part, in either Markdown, static HTML or XML format. […]
Wine and WordPress? Yes Please.
The WordPress Events team via Aaron Jorbin is refining their best practices around global meetups and how organizers are getting the best participation and interaction with their venues and even the refreshments that are offered at the event. The questions posed this week per the latter conversation are: Does your meetup have any sort of refreshments available If you do offer them, How does your meetup procure them? What challenges do you face with refreshments, and how do you try to overcome them? I’m personally all for refreshments as there’s nothing quite sad as a parched crowd, especially since it’s not as much […]
