BuddyPress has just released version 1.6.2 with 11 tickets closed including a change on the wp_create_thumbnail() being deprecated in WordPress 3.5. It should be an easy update for those running BuddyPress 1.5/1.6 and are updating to WordPress 3.5, which should drop today if nothing changes dramatically. You a fan of BuddyPress? Show us your installation! I’d love to see your implementation.
January WordCamps Showcase International Presence
January is just around the corner and there are six (count ’em), six WordCamps that are happening in six different countries and only one in the US of A. I think this clearly shows the universal play that WordPress has around the globe and I’m so stoked that the first month of 2013 is so international. Here they are: WordCamp Victoria, January 12 in Victoria, British Columbia WordCamp Phoenix, January 18-20 in Phoenix, Arizona WordCamp Paris, January 18-19 in Paris, France WordCamp Mexico, January 18-19 in Ciudad de Mexico, Distrito Federal, México WordCamp Baroda, January 26-27 in Baroda, India WordCamp Norway, January 26-27 in Oslo, Norway Pretty neat, […]
WordCamp Toronto Session Notes and Slides
There are so many great WordCamps going on that it’s hard to keep track of them all! But we’re committed to helping cover them as they come and go and provide you resources that are publicly shared via each one! WordCamp Toronto finished early last month and the slides and decks are finally being uploaded and shared – there are some incredible presentations that were given that you may want to give a few seconds. Like many WordCamps, they broke it out into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced tracks to help conference goers spend their time wisely. Here’s a master list […]
Jason Bradley: "I'm on a Bus, I'm on a Bus!"
Apparently Jason Bradley likes to do local development on his bus ride into work as opposed to listening to music or catching up on some Zzz’s. Got some fun pics of you and WordPress like this (or like this)? Send them to us via Submit News and on the drop-down mark “Community Photos”!
WordPress 3.5 RC6 Released, Official Release Moved Back
No worries here but it seems the core team, after a few issues with TinyMCE last night, has decided to have another Release Candidate prepped and then at least a 24 hour freeze with changes to the trunk. They are asking people to boot it up, test it, and see if you can break it. In fact, Andrew Nacin shares exactly what needs to be reviewed:
WordPress 3.5 Delayed?
WP 3.5 tomorrow no longer looking good. Dear TinyMCE, you and I are breaking up after this. — Andrew Nacin (@nacin) December 10, 2012 It looks like not all is well in release land as some issues appears to have cropped up with TinyMCE per a few tweets that have been passing close to midnight tonight, the above via @Nacin. @Koop, another core developer, had this to say about the release that was scheduled to appear tomorrow at 11:00am EST:
The WooThemes Paintball Team is Now Accepting Challenges…
Apparently one of the goals of flying your entire WordPress team into the same geographically region is so that you can beat the living snot out of each other with colored paint. Ah, the simple joys of dishing out pain to your friends…! Check out this short video they created which appears to be a teaser for a much larger feature coming out shortly.
It's That Time Again: Voting for Core Team Reps
If you’ve been around the core development team for some time then you know that there have always been a leadership structure that is followed so that stuff simply gets done. Most organizations have some sort of reporting mechanism and structure that exists so that productivity remains high. Earlier this year WordPress started experimenting with “Team Reps” which is not the same thing as “Team Leads” – this distinction helped distribute the responsibility of providing updates about progress to others to keep the net of responsibility wide without letting things slip through the crack. This position would be temporary, allowing […]
