We’ve been seeing an incredible influx of emails since launching WP Daily from all over the place asking us one simple question (two actually): Do you know someone who can help me with WordPress? These people are looking for help on a particular project and even a handful of them are looking for part-time and full time employees! We’ve been using our own internal rolodex to help these people out but it’s gotten to be a bit of a hassle. In addition, we’ve gotten an increased number of inquiries that have been around this question as well:
WP Remote Adds Automatic Backups
Oh yeah. WP Remote, a monitoring and update solution that has received a bit of attention recently is continuing their product development and rolling out a killer new feature that’s going to have a lot of people considering it strongly even more so as a competitor against the likes of VaultPress and even BackupBuddy. As Noel Tock shared with me privately, they are already monitoring over 40k sties on a daily basis (and growing). With a $5 offering that competes directly with VaultPress’ newest tier it may have in fact just tipped the scales in their favor, especially with these features:
Authentic Themes: Yet Another Theme Shop?
Yup, another theme shop has seen their doors swing wide open and long sighs could be heard all across the WordPress land as competitors and consultants users begin wondering if this is yet another copycat or a fierce and growing competitor. Authentic Themes, launched by AJ Clarke who is also part of WP Explorer, shared his thoughts on an announce post including some of the introductory pricing: Packed with WordPress awesomeness, this theme subscription site is priced to please. Starting at just $40 per year, this bundle is super affordable and includes a solid mix of 100% GPL WordPress themes […]
Demystifying WordPress SEO with Kathy Brown
“Search engine optimization” – sometimes those words make me literally shudder on the inside. It’s mostly because there are 1,000 and 1 “seo experts” that are peddling their wares, products, and services when they have really no idea themselves what they are talking about. Even though I’ve been around the web and publishing for quite some time I’d be the very last to ever declare myself as “expert” at SEO – it’s just not what I do (and I don’t want to be). Just because you’ve been around the block or blogged a few times doesn’t mean you know much. This […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 6.5.2013
Happy #humpday everyone! It’s a little bit of a slow day on the plugin front, but that’s alright. I still have few updated plugins to share. Check these puppies out after the jump!
Conflict of Interest? Dreamhost and WPEngine?
This was brought to my attention this morning as I was looking more into the details of DreamPress, which is Dreamhost‘s new WordPress-centric hosting solution to give more power to those WP-centric sites and customers. Like I’ve mentioned publicly before, I’ve been a long-time customer of Dreamhost for my smaller sites, since 2007, and I’ve been very happy with what I’ve gotten, especially since my expectations of performance and usage were in check. And at the very same time I’m also a fan of what WP Engine has going on and have some great convos with a number of their […]
FooPlugins Adds Coming Soon Plugin by SeedProd
Generally this may not be necessarily news-worthy but I decided to take a look into it because FooPlugins is not like your ThemeForest or other large and established marketplace – it’s a much newer and much smaller one that has tons of potential. With their newest addition, the Coming Soon Plugin by SeedProd, they are adding their 8th (yes, only 8) WordPress-centric plugins up for sale. This smaller and more niche/curated experience is somewhat of a personal delight as I like the more boutique feel that FooPlugins is presenting. Whether or not I am right in that “feeling” is entirely […]

Ch 3: A Peek at the Upcoming WordPress History Book
Siobhan McKeown has been busy. Like, really busy. With her just-minted appointment at Audrey Capital, Matt Mullenweg‘s investment firm, she’s hit the ground running working on what seems a crazy-amount of things. This is including the pending WordPress Book that’s going to be featuring much of the history and backstory of how a little application took over the internet. As she’s shared recently, Chapter 3 is already out, or at least a pass of it, so that you can take a gander at the work so far:
Bret Simmons: Social Business and Personal Branding
I’m passionate about personal branding because I believe it’s an important part of building a successful business online. Why? Because people are interested in following people, not just an organization. That’s why you see more people follow (literally) founders of organizations instead of the official company Twitter account. That’s why you get personal blogs that scale way faster and larger than corporate blogs. It’s all about branding and communicating out of being a person, being human. After all, we don’t want to connect with our products – we want to connect with other people.
