Every so often I come across an implementation that makes me smile a bit. It’s usually because of some clever use of styling, a little code wizardry, or even a very unique UX implementation that catches me off guard. This morning I was greeted with a customization of the Twenty Eleven theme that gave me that same emotion – I love seeing the base “default” and yearly themes being customized beyond their initial intent to showcase not only how versatile they are but also how well designed and developed they are out of the box. This morning I’d like to […]
Now's the Time: Opinion on Theme Review Process
Ok folks, now is your time to speak up if you have any issues, concerns, or ideas of improvement for the existing Theme Review Process as it stands today. Emil Uzelac, who just had a neat acquisition with his Responsive Theme and with news of it being released on WordPress.com, shared this open forum for your thoughts yesterday. As Emil requested, no personal agendas here please. Ok, so go over and drop your 2 cents – they are looking for it!
Our Simple Twitter Widget
We’ve been asked this so many times that I thought I’d just create a simple blog post that I can reference to when people ask. Although we’re not super fans of having our little Twitter widget on the sidebar (we’re looking into some alternative implementations) it’s very useful for people to easily follow us and tweet news to us that we should review. The reason is that it’s a bit slow-loading – that is, it requires a bit more of load time than I’m willing to give up as we look into a redesign, but for now it’ll do just fine.
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 2.28.2013
It’s my favorite day of the week…Thursday! Only one more day till the weekend. It has definitely been a busy day for sure for me and it seems the same for these authors of new plugins. I’m thinking the Genericon’d plugin looks pretty sweet with the recent release of Genericons. Here’s the rest of the list for you guys:
Roshan Bhattarai: Scaling for Large Traffic
Have a growing WordPress blog or site as well as a growing monthly cost to support it? If that’s you and you’d much rather be on the side of the former rather than the latter then this presentation by Roshan might be of use. Because all of us would love for our blogs to scale while keeping the costs low, right? Roshan borrows some wisdom Ewan Leith as well to provide us a solution using: Nginx Varnish or Squid PHP-FMP Sphinx CDN Opcode Cache (APC) Take a look at the presentation including the slides after the jump. Hope that helps! Thanks […]

Have you tried out CloudSwipe yet? They are an eCommerce solution that is attempting to make all of your customer’s purchasing experience and your commerce management woes go away. With. One. Big. Swipe. Or at least that’s the marketed idea which is simple enough – and then you experience what they have built. With their “page slurp” technology imagine the ability to create that beautiful custom WordPress-powered site with all the bells and whistles and then for CloudSwipe to come in behind you and “take” your theme and use it to style secure ecommerce pages for selling products. MP6 – Top Secret Plugin???
We found a secret plugin in today’s roundup and I wanted to spend a litte more time digging into it. The name of the plugin is MP6 and the author is Matt Mullenweg. It seems to be a plugin that is dedicated to UI changes for WordPress 3.6. Simplifying the wp-admin UI is a challenging task, as flattening the icons showed us when you improve one thing it just makes all of the other out of date elements stand out more. Trunk isn’t terribly well-suited for UI iteration, so this plugin is a chance for us to rapidly iterate in […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 2.27.2013
Happy #humpday everyone! I’ve got a new theme to share with you today on the roundup. I also have a ton of new plugins to share as well, even a “top secret” one. And I quote: This plugin a secret, don’t tell anybody about it. Can you figure out which one it is? Hint: It’s the only one that has an author’s name next to it 🙂
Yahoo!: Wrong or Disguised Plan for Growth?
Earlier this week Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo!, issued an internal memo to Yahoo! employees detailing changes within the company. The memo detailed changes to Yahoo!’s remote working policy, and it was made clear that remote-working or working from home was no longer a benefit at Yahoo!. The memo itself was a great positive-negative-positive message. One of those memos where there is a sword ripping through your gut half way through but the smile at the beginning and end is supposed to make everything ok.
