It’s #humpday and I have a new theme and a few new plugins to share with you on today’s roundup. I honestly never thought I would be writing a post about a theme with the name Toothpaste. It’s white and clean as it should. It’s also responsive which is a definite win! Don’t forget to check out the plugins too!
I Don't Have Any GTD: I Just See Work as Play
Occasionally I’m asked how I get my work done and the process and methods by which I accomplish the many tasks that are required of me during the day. The honest truth is that it changes. All the time. I’m not as regimented as people believe and I’m not sold out to any particular for of GTD or productivity app. I’ll try this and that, experiment here, try that app there, but you’ll really never hear me consistently extolling the virtues of one over another, especially over a consistent amount of time. I’m not systematic although I do enjoy and […]
Plugin Proposal: Integrating Flickr Photo Search
We know how adding great images can make a positive impact on every type of blog post. Images – especially the perfect one – add context, break up blocks of text, and supplement the main point or occasionally add humor. Seeing the impact of images is the easy part – but what do you do when you want to find that perfect image for your latest blog post or article? Search Google Images, and then wade through the results hoping to find the perfect one, while ignoring the fact that you might be using other people’s work without permission?
A Trademark For Your WordPress Business?
I’ve only trademarked one other thing for another business and that was because it was incredibly obvious that we should – it was a term that was previously trademarked and part of a domain URL that we purchased for 5-figures. We lucked out in that the previous owner of the trademark didn’t renew their registration and it had expired literally months before we started looking into it. Like I said, we totally lucked into it. But I’ve never trademarked any of the WordPress-centric businesses that I’ve run and even here at WP Daily I’m hesitant to consider it. I’m not […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 3.5.2013
There’s a couple new themes and new and updated plugins to share on today’s roundup. The Responsive Page Tester plugin looks pretty sweet. It could be a great companion if you have a responsive theme. Check it out along with the others!
Joomla's Historical Civil War and Why We Should Care
The dust has cleared in more than a few ways since the GPL debate became a big discussion point in the last few months and I believe everyone is breathing a little easier knowing that some of the major issues have been resolved. Or, at the very least, things are moving back to a point of equilibrium among the larger parties involved. The active and passionate discussion will continue to circle over our heads since we’ll never be completely clear of it as long as WordPress continues to be licensed under the GPL. What’s fascinating is to note that these […]
Vinay Paudel: Optimization, Speed
[wpvideo 8twCJVmH] Every so often we share a few great WordPress presentations via a local WordCamp that many of you may find of value and something that all of us can appreciate is better performance for WordPress sites. One of the previous presentations also focused on scaling and speed.
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 3.4.2013
Too many themes and plugins to share with you to put into words on today’s roundup. So here’s the list:
Ars Technica: Ups The Live Blogging Game
We’ve experimented with a few live blogging events here on WP Daily and our experiments are still being played out as we work with more and more WordCamp event organizers and fiddle with the live blog plugin that we’ve got running during the events, and we thought we had a sweet deal going! But the guys over at Ars Technica have really upped the ante with their in-house developed solution which allows some significant functionality beyond what I’ve seen or used myself. For example, The liveblog tool is a WordPress plugin that Marlin and Aylward wrote from scratch and it […]
What is the Future of Blogging?
To understand the future of blogging one must be reminded from whence we came – @dbierbrauer gives us a fascinating look backwards (and then forwards). From her presentation, it starts here with USENETS and moves on from there. For those that are even old enough to remember USENET then this might be a trip down memory lane!
