The growth of mobile devices have forced many a web designer and web developer to consider responsive layouts are part of their services as more and more businesses are getting savvy about their mobile customers. Personally, I do not believe that it’s hit critical mass in terms of adoption or even awareness but it’s fast-becoming a consistent conversation with the organizations that I consult with and is nearly always listed as a “need” or high on the desirables list. So, is this the year of the Responsive WordPress Theme? Will it become a defacto-standard in WordPress theme development? I’m not […]

Review and Comparison of 10 Premium WordPress Frameworks
A WordPress site can be created in many different ways. Some developers first start with HTML code that they then “migrate” into WordPress. Others start with a pre-existing template and build off of that. But, many developers are turning to a more robust option: WordPress frameworks. With a pre-built, flexible code-base already in place, WordPress frameworks provide us with an efficient way to build a site. Instead of starting from scratch, developers can leverage a framework’s built-in code, options, plug-ins, and themes from which to develop. Think of them as starter themes to help you get going and eliminate the […]

Should Theme Changelogs Be Required or Recommended?
If you’ve ever created a WordPress Theme, a WordPress plugin, or any software application for that matter, then you’ve probably created a changelog of sorts to help users and other interested parties (e.g. developers) understand exactly what was changed since the last version. For those that aren’t quite sure, here’s a quick definition: A changelog is a log or record of changes made to a project, such as a website or software project, usually including such records as bug fixes, new features, etc. Some open source projects include a changelog as one of the top level files in their distribution. As a programmer myself I know […]
How To Get Started Podcasting
By now, we’ve released a couple of episodes of Hello Dolly with several other episodes in the pipeline. Ultimately we’re looking to publish at least one episode per month. Once we’re in the new office, it should be easier to release more than one per month. At any rate, I thought it might be worth sharing how we record our podcasts – the software, the hardware, and the community – in hopes that it gives a look behind the scenes of the podcast, but more so that it may help you guys jump start your own podcasting efforts.

And since we’re all about doing things daily, well, we might as well give it a go! You’ll find great roundups that list the “best of” and “top 10 __________” all over the place but what you don’t find is many that will […]
