Today marks the 3rd week that we have been posting the Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup. It has been great to share these with you and we have really appreciated the positive we have received. My favorite part of the roundup is getting to share the work that others in the WordPress community are doing and being able to connect with them as well through the comments. Just the other day one of readers Ben shared one of his plugins that was similar to one that we had posted. Here’s the list with a special #shoutout plugin. Check it out!
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
Wow. Has this week been an interesting week or what? With people swirling around the GPL debate yet again there hasn’t been much else that people have been talking about – in fact, it’s generally been a fairly quiet week. Of course, we aren’t aware of everything happening in the WordPress universe (at least not yet), but here are a few things that you’ll want to check out that we weren’t able to tackle head-on in the past 168 hours. Enjoy your weekend folks!
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 1.25.2013
It’s Friday! How was everyone’s week? Productive I hope. It seems that it was a very productive plugin day for many today. There’s quite a list of new and updated plugins to share today. I’m hoping to have some time to play around with a few of them this weekend. How about you? Here’s the long awesome list:
Sensei: Welcoming Instructional Ninjas
Monday morning the fine fellas at WooThemes released a new Learning Management System (LMS) plugin called Sensei. If you read my post about e-learning and WordPress, you recall that I wrote about another plugin, WP Courseware from Fly Plugins. At the time I wrote about WP Courseware, it didn’t support quizzes, which meant you had to create them on your own (using a plugin like Gravity Forms). But today that’s different, because WP Courseware has been aggressively improving its own plugin. So which one do you choose?
2 New Free Themes at WP.com – My Life, Silesia
We saw a lot of activity last year as a number of free and premium themes were released – over 65 as reported and we can expect this pace to continue this year, and then some. Two new free WordPress.com themes have been released, the first named My Life by Justin Tadlock and the second named Silesia by NattyWP. Take a look at some of the screens as they are quite pretty:
Jake Caputo Gets Real with WPCandy
Want to hear some of the perspective of Jake Caputo who has had an incredibly-busy week this week around Envato, WPF, GPL, and WordCamps? Ryan Imel over at WP Candy in their 35th episode has it with his guest, talking over the experience and touching upon more than a few things. One point that Jake reminds the audience is that ThemeForest is his biggest source of income and it’s just not a possibility at this point for his lifestyle and financial needs. In other words, he can’t just up and “quit” ThemeForest tomorrow and be completely ok with it! Again, […]
Is Selling on Envato 'Insane' for Developers?
As per Alex King‘s comment when reviewing the Mac App Store policies for selling and Envato’s marketplace: The more I think about it, the more insane I think it is to choose to do business with Envato given their current terms. In order to put your products in their marketplace with a semi-reasonable revenue share you are choosing to completely subjugate your business to their whims. You can’t experiment with your product pricing, you can’t try other marketplaces, you can’t sell direct to your customers… you can’t even choose your own software license! He compares the two in light of […]
The Art of Embracing
As writers and content creators, we all seem to have something in common besides from the obvious. Sure, we all write about things we have interest in or provide professional tips based on our specialties, but there is something more than that. We all have a sixth sense to embrace everything that happens to us. When we learn something new and we share it. When we have an extraordinary experience, we share it. When we hear a story from some one or see them doing amazing things that inspire us, we share it. I’m not talking about sharing on Facebook, […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 1.24.2013
It’s Thursday ladies and gentleman. Only one day left in the work week, for some I guess. I mentioned before that it’s my favorite day of the week, and I am happy to announce that nothing has changed that yet. #WINNING. That’s not the only win today, there’s some new plugins that I get the pleasure to share. I guess that means everyday is a win then right? I’ll take it! It’s a pretty impressive list today. I’m thinking the Jetpack Only for Admins would be kind of sweet for us here at WP Daily and may other multi-author blogs. You see any […]
Liveblog v1.3, Adds Archiving, Editing, Notifications
Yummy! If you haven’t heard about the Liveblog Plugin then you may have already seen it in action here and here where we had two community members liveblog the WordCamp events. Was it a success? Did the plugin work? Abso-freakin-lootely. We are still polishing up our protocols and methods of execution with the liveblog system here at WP Daily but the fact is that tons of people poured into the site on those days to hear in real-time what was happening in a local gathering. Now that’s pretty darn cool. Our intention of adding liveblogging to our editorial efforts here is […]
