As developers we have the incredible opportunity to provide real value to real people – it reminds me of Spiderman to the Nth degree and how Uncle Ben told Spidey: With great power comes great responsibility. You could also attribute this to Franklin D. Roosevelt as well who said: Today we have learned in the agony of war that great power involves great responsibility. And for some it is truly a war that is going on in their minds and hearts! Take for instance Ben Gilbanks who is pondering what he should do in terms of a plugin that he is […]
WordPress Events: Why Not Roll Your Own?
Unless you’ve been under a rock you’re already aware of all the buzz going around WordCamps and the challenge that some are having in terms of being able to sponsor and present at these events. It’s been hashed and rehashed in so many different ways in the last few days and more intelligent people have been adding their thoughts to the pile of collective ideas that I have almost nothing left to contribute. But I’ve been thinking deeply about it not only because our team here at WP Daily is co-organizing a WordCamp but because at the heart of what everyone […]
WordPress vs. Concrete5
Noupe takes a look comparing Concrete5 to WordPress. Your TL;DR version here:
Free CRM Plugin Built on WordPress?
The scoop and word on the street is that Remi Corson, a very WordPress developer and blogger, is looking to release a free CRM (Customer Relationship Management) plugin with WordPress. If it’s anything close to what a few people have already asked then it could be a doozy of a plugin that could provide a lot of value for those who manage, invoice and bill clients and customers on the web. There’s already a huge existing market for CRM apps but only a few WordPress-powered solutions. Remi offered up some more context for what he’s building as well in a recent […]

Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 1.23.2013
Wow! What a day! There’s some great conversation happening over here on our site today. I wish we got as many comments about new and updated themes and plugins as we do issues of GPL. Good stuff! We do have some new and updated plugins to share today though. Let us know if you are the author or have used any of these. Here they are:
A Chat with Vid Luther, Founder of ZippyKid
Some may argue that 2013 is the year of the responsive WordPress design and I can see it from both sides but I can’t imagine that anyone would disagree that this is definitely the year of managed hosting for WordPress. The trend is nothing but up-and-to-the-right as more and more theme shops, individuals, and entrepreneurs are considering adding a hosted layer to their core offering and services. We’re keeping track of all of it here at WP Daily! We’re also trying to reach out to some of the key players and get their perspective on how they’ve seen the market […]
A Response: ThemeForest Authors and WordCamps
I was really disappointed to hear recently that one of our ThemeForest authors, Jake Caputo aka Designcrumbs, had been barred from supporting, speaking at, and volunteering at WordCamps. It’s been a couple of years since Envato itself was restricted from supporting these events. As a company I feel there are plenty of other ways we can still support the WordPress ecosystem beyond the official Camps – e.g. meetups, teaching, and so on. But in the intervening time, I was happy that our authors continued attending and speaking at WordCamps – which was great. Many, like Jake, are amongst the most […]
The Future of WordPress Post Formats UI?
Ever bought a stationary bike the entire family was ecstatic about using, only to see it turn into an expensive clothes rack? Then a few years later you finally decide to get serious about it and start spinning? In WordPress Universe, post formats are like that bike. The main problem with post formats is that they make theme developers do a lot of guess work. If you search Post formats Codex page, you’ll find words could and may thirteen times (combined), should is there only once, not a perfect implementation of Decisions not Options principle. The whole idea behind post formats was to create a […]
