Remember a little while ago WordPress.com put out it’s education initiative that looked a lot like just a WordPress theme called “chalkboard” which looks a lot like a classroom chalkboard. Automattic obviously read the education studies that show Chalkboards magically help people learn information. Some people have come out as very critical of this move into education by just putting out a theme without any new enhanced functions to assist online learning but what about some of the other premium themes out there? Are there other educational themes that are better for using in your classroom?
Daniel Bachhuber Says Goodbye to Automattic
Daniel, who was part of the VIP Services team at Automattic, has announced that he’s left the role just shy of two years of employment there. Citing the fact that he hasn’t felt like his personal growth was at an acceptable pace he’s looking for a more “challenging opportunity,” one that will push him to “learn, grow, and lead.” Daniel is a guy that most of this team subscribe to and he’s incredibly bright and eager to move on to the next big thing – he’s even open to hearing about new opportunities, so feel free to drop him a […]
Interview with Erick Hitter, via Matt Report
What is it like to work at/for Automattic? Erick Hitter shares his experience.
Rumor: WP Engine to Go IPO?
Now that would be a mega-first. It seems like they are hinting at that with their recent hire of COO Heather Brunner, from Bazaarvoice, a technology company also located in Austin, TX: With Brunner’s addition to WP Engine, the WordPress-focused service will be gaining someone with experience helping to lead a company into an IPO. Ben Metcalfe, one of WP Engine’s co-founders, tells us that should the company go that route, it would be the first time a company went public based around the popular blogging platform. She will be charged with growing the company from its 46 employees today […]
Scott Berkun Goes Pantless, That Mother******!
I had to, I’m sorry. I found a very old interview featuring Scott Berkun who was asked the following question (and his response): Which words or phrases do you most overuse? My friends would say its mother*****r. But I don’t think this word can be overused. My type of guy.

The Other Automatic…?
An interesting site passed my desk the other day – Automatic. No, not the beloved and largest commercial WordPress company Automattic, but rather another company that appears be just very cool in it’s own right. Sure, this has nothing to do with WordPress – but hey this service looks completely legit – and it may save your life. That’s worth a shoutout with a loose affiliation to the other Automattic, right?
Summer Internship @ Automattic
Wow, now this would be something sweet and you’ve got just a month to get in your application as they close it April 15th. So you’ll want to jump on it! It’s paid by the way, so that’s straight-up legit: As a paid intern, you’ll be working on a range of projects depending on your skills & passions — everything from doing development work on plugins that improve WordPress functionality for large media companies to working on core WordPress.com features and development. Last year, our interns had a great time developing code for WordPress.com that launched and is still in […]
Locu Loves Some Automattic, Restaurants
It seems that restaurants are getting a ton of love this year with a bunch of restaurant-related WordPress businesses have cropped up as well as seeing WordPress.com open up it’s own vertical. It’s getting even better now with a native integration between Locu, a menu system for users and site owners, and WordPress.com powered sites. Embedding a Locu shortcode is as easy as a few clicks and their Locu-powered Menu will automatically appear on their site. I can imagine that this will be a boon for restaurant owners and site managers who are trying to maximize the limited amount of time […]
WordPress @ SXSW? Yes!
South by Southwest is coming oh so shortly and unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this year. Drat. Now, I feel like I have some really good reasons behind that, namely, WordCamp Atlanta 2013, so I’m not losing out too badly. But it’s always been a good show and an incredible atmosphere to be a part of. The digital and interactive piece is not a mainstay in the belly of high tech yearly conferences and a lot of innovation and disruptive technologies are showcased each year to a hungry audience. Automattic will be there as well and they are […]
