Is it just me or am I the only one who’s completely miffed by the strange display of secrecy (anonymity?) behind the mysterious employer that owns-and-yet-does-not-operate WPTavern? Jeffro has been incredibly coy about it all, although he’s mentioned in a recent blog post comment reply that his “boss” will soon share some more of these details: I know we have the interview questions but my boss will be the one publishing a post here on WPTavern.com at some point in the near future that will explain a bunch of things. (The “interview questions” are ones that I gave Jeffro a […]
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
Yet another incredibly busy week for us at WP Daily and the rest of the 8BIT team – as much as we hate to admit it, we’re still somewhat recovering from WordCamp Atlanta that finished a few weeks ago – all those calls and meetings and things that we had hoped to get done were pushed back and we’re finally knocking them out, one-by-one. But we’ll get there. I’m sure of it. Without further ado, here’s a look at the past week and some of the stories that we weren’t able to cover explicitly:
Never Switch Again – Choose WordPress First!
TechCrunch shared some news that made me crack a big smile as I read it: In the past 30 days alone, 15 million posts have been imported into the platform [WordPress.com]. The top two services that tend to migrate to WordPress are Blogger and Tumblr, Mullenweg tells me. And then there is Posterous. It’s neat to see how many people are finding WordPress as a go-to solution for their blogging needs and yet how many try another service first, either out of ignorance of WordPress’ existence or because they didn’t feel like it “solved” their felt needs. But I wish more […]
Matt Mullenweg on DradCast, Interfaces and Evolution
Last night the hosts of DradCast had Matt Mullenweg on for 71 minutes of discussion around interfaces, evolution, and the future of WordPress. Tuning in from one of the “best” internet connections via South Africa Matt spent some time discussing many things at length as well as answering community questions. He even mentioned the 8 year anniversary of Automattic, incorporated March 28, 2005! If you’ve got the time it’s well worth it:

Matt Mullenweg to Host DradCast, Ask Qs!
DradCast is chugging along just fine with them bumping into their 6th episode very soon. In fact, they’ve managed to get Matt Mullenweg to help host the next one which will be broadcast live at 8:00pm EST next Wednesday, the 27th. You’re not going to want to miss it.
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
It’s been an insane week – and it’s been nothing short of a miracle. Finishing our Epic Gaming Mural, Holding our Jelly Event, organizing and finishing out WordCamp Atlanta (and the VIP after party), launching a Kickstarter Campaign, and managing all the other “normal” things in life – yikes, it’s just been insanity! We’ve been getting a few hours of sleep each night, if we’re lucky. As you can see, Chris is trying to recover… at 8:00am in the morning. But without further ado, here you go:
Matt Mullenweg @ SXSW 2013
A short but sweet interview with Matt Mullenweg at SXSW. He talks about working from home, making money, and more. Take 9 minutes this busy Monday morning and give it a watch. Ah, Austin – I miss you so much.
Siobhan McKeown Moves to Audrey Capital
First-off, big congrats to Siobhan and her new role, which started this week! Audrey Capital, the angel investment firm led by Matt Mullenweg, will give Siobhan a full-time role which means that she’ll be putting “pause” on her Words for WP contract firm for the time being. What will Siobhan be doing instead? Well, she’ll be doing a lot of what she’s already been doing except on a much bigger scale (and perhaps paycheck): It’s no surprise to anyone that one of my focuses is going to be working on WordPress documentation. This will be in terms of planning and […]
MP6 – Top Secret Plugin???
We found a secret plugin in today’s roundup and I wanted to spend a litte more time digging into it. The name of the plugin is MP6 and the author is Matt Mullenweg. It seems to be a plugin that is dedicated to UI changes for WordPress 3.6. Simplifying the wp-admin UI is a challenging task, as flattening the icons showed us when you improve one thing it just makes all of the other out of date elements stand out more. Trunk isn’t terribly well-suited for UI iteration, so this plugin is a chance for us to rapidly iterate in […]
