This is a question that esmi has brought up in make.accessible: Cited example: Should the Twenty Thirteen drop the use of the role attribute on the HTML5 nav element on the grounds that the element, by definition, has the role of navigation? Or should role=”navigation” be retained in order to support technologies that are not yet HTML5 aware? My own opinion that the role attribute should be retained for the time being in order to support the widest range of technologies. Dropping it would offer only a marginal benefit in reducing page bloat. Please do weigh in with your opinions on the ticket. Great question and I love the focus […]
WP.com Launches Cities, Approved Hosting for Feds
WordPress.com and Automattic continue to push out their vertical marketing and engagement by introducing what they are dubbing “Cities” in an attempt to grab more customers as well as save those same customers tons of cash: City administrators: Don’t spend thousands of dollars on a proprietary system for your city’s website. We’ve launched WordPress.com/cities as the go-to place to start a site for your city or other municipal body, and there’s no charge to get started. (“Free” is a price that will get every taxpayer on board, and since WordPress.com has been approved as a hosting site for federal government agencies, you […]
WP_Query Generator via GenerateWP
Looking for another great and simple tool to add to your list of already-large tools? Perhaps not, but at least check this one out when you have a chance – it’s Rami’s 9th generator via GenerateWP. The concept is quite simple: Use the tool to create custom code for WordPress Query with WP_Query class. Try it out for yourself – fill out the form, update the code, copy the code to your theme/plugin. Done and done:
Support SchoolPress on Indiegogo
Now this is pretty neat: Basilis Kanonidis let us know of a sweet campaign that just launched that hopes to gather the support of the wide WordPress community. What is it? SchoolPress is a project inspired by the need to educate kids around WordPress. There are many things that kids and their parents can learn, while starting to blog, code or even build their business, around WordPress. SchoolPress will be both an online and an offline project. Oh, now that’s pretty slick. Please note that it’s relative to Greece so it’s not a stateside project, FYI.
NetNewsWire 4 Beta is Available for Your Feeds
Just in time too. NetNewsWire, a native OS X RSS Reader just released their Beta for version 4 and it’s not too shabby. You can download it and import your Google Reader feeds in just a matter of seconds (literally) and be relieved that not is all lost. I tried it out last night and although it won’t get me to switch from Feedly at the present moment I may slowly begin to try it on for size at it comes out into a full release.
WP Remote Survey – Got a Sec?
Noel Tock and WP Remote are looking to up their game and to continue to create a product worth downloading and using. He’s looking for a bit of help with a survey that he’s shot out – would you mind answering it, especially if you’re a WP Remote fan? Check it:
WPUniversity Plugin Looking for Beta Testers
Whoa, now what is this? At first glance I thought it was another take the likes of WP101 but a cursory review shows that it’s actually a plugin that hopes to give you some relief for perhaps yourself but most likely your clients as they use WordPress: The WPUniversity Plugin provides real-time, guided WordPress help right from your dashboard, whenever you need it. It’s not a video, it’s not an overlay. It’s real help happening in real-time solving real problems and questions. With the click of a button, you’ll get a step-by-step answer to your question instantly. So you can stop […]
It's a Brad Brad World – Security and His WP Agency
Ok, I’ll admit that on occasion I’ll sit on my couch with my wife long enough to see what passes as “entertainment” these days via reality TV and to be honest, the fashion shows are some of the more interesting. The personalities, at the very least, have some creative depth! And Bravo has some of the best shows – without question. It’s a Brad Brad World isn’t one of them though (he was such a punk for using his position with Rachel Zoe to spin his own show!) but it did give me a title of this blog post today. […]
Better Planet Update #1 – Votes are In
It seems that the votes are in and the 2 new additions to WPLift’s Better Planet system are… (*drum roll please*): Pippin’s Plugins Matt Report Nice. With 22% and 39% respectively these two sites easily out-distanced the other sites that were being considered.
An Overview of Postagon: "Just Right"?
Wow, is this the year of new and alternative blogging platforms? Does everyone have a vision for a new system and application? Perhaps, and we’re only half-way through the year. Yikes. I can’t help but try the new systems and even though it eats up a lot of my time I think it’s valuable to see what innovation is being developed by thoughtful developers and designers. Check this visual overview of system that’s very similar to Roon, except it’s much more mature and has a business model already:
