It’s true. We can’t get enough of WordPress here at WP Daily. And yes, we’re those type of people that like to showcase it own our backs (great tshirts via WordCamps!), our bags (pins!), on our notebooks physically (stickers!), and even our desktop wallpapers. My all-time favorite is this one that I’ve had for ages – I honestly can’t remember where I got it and who to give credit to!
Wikipedia to Start Using MariaDB over MySQL
WordPress can be installed on a number of different databases outside of the dominant MySQL but it typically takes a certain level of expertise and even a bit of digital finagling. But without question, most people will find MySQL to be the defacto choice and should serve their needs well. But over the past few years we’ve seen a number of major MySQL sites and players migrate onto other database systems for a variety of different reasons, typically surrounding performance and quickly followed by simply preference – and there’s nothing wrong with the migrations in and of themselves but I’m […]
Should Theme Changelogs Be Required or Recommended?
If you’ve ever created a WordPress Theme, a WordPress plugin, or any software application for that matter, then you’ve probably created a changelog of sorts to help users and other interested parties (e.g. developers) understand exactly what was changed since the last version. For those that aren’t quite sure, here’s a quick definition: A changelog is a log or record of changes made to a project, such as a website or software project, usually including such records as bug fixes, new features, etc. Some open source projects include a changelog as one of the top level files in their distribution. As a programmer myself I know […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 1.6.2013
One of the things that we’ve been thinking about doing is providing even more roundups for those that can’t keep up-to-date with all that is going on – and one of the larger areas of growth in the WordPress ecosystem are the incredible amount of WordPress plugins and themes that are released and updated every single day. And since we’re all about doing things daily, well, we might as well give it a go! You’ll find great roundups that list the “best of” and “top 10 __________” all over the place but what you don’t find is many that will […]

Need Testers for 3.5.1!
Andrew Nacin dropped a quick post that’s worth mentioning for those that want to spend a little time this weekend helping millions of people blog a bit better… test 3.5.1! Final release is tentatively scheduled for this Monday! Call for testers. WordPress 3.5.1 is now in beta and we could use your help. (Use either the 3.5 branch in SVN, the WordPress Beta Tester plugin, or the nightly build (zip).) There’s about 30 tickets currently resolved, and another few we’re still working on. Here’s the full report of those. In particular, we could use help testing multisite rewrite rules. There’s a comment with testing instructions on the ticket, #23073. […]
Aaron Campbell (Ranger) to Co-Lead WordPress 3.6
Finally, a co-lead to Mark Jaquith has been found for the WordPress 3.6 release! Yippee! Aaron Campbell, partner and CTO of Range, is not a new-comer to WordPress and should provide an excellent source of support after having contributed for more than 5 years to core and related products. We’re excited to see them team up together and work their WordPress magic, as we know they will. Aaron shares a few thoughts on their blog on some of the current ideas being tossed about for the 3.6 release:
Steven Sinofsky: New Blog on Product Dev, Shipping
Steven Sinofsky, very famous for retiring in November of last year after years of incredible work at Microsoft, specifically with the Windows Division, has launched a new blog using WordPress focused on product development and the art of shipping, which is one of the things that Matt Mullenweg is incredibly passionate about. Sinofsky shares a few thoughts about the future of the blog and it’s content: The title comes from something impressed upon me early in my career, which is that learning as an engineer comes from the process of starting, then finishing, and iterating on products–getting products to market […]
Hello Dolly Podcast Now Available Directly (Not Just iTunes)
We’ve told you a few times and we’ll keep telling you confidently – we are listening to you and your needs and many of you have requested that we create access to our Hello Dolly Podcast directly, instead of just via iTunes. Well, there’s been a lot of work around these parts and so the so-called simple things like setting up a direct feed isn’t something we can magically pull out of a hat – but, we managed to get something set up for those that want it directly: HelloDolly.fm, which should redirect to: http://feeds.feedburner.com/hello-dolly Luckily we managed to grab a simple […]
