Jane Wells spent a few moments reflecting on WordPress.org and all that has happened around the budding community over the last 365 days in the now quickly-being-forgotten 2012 – my, does time fly when you’re having so much fun! A few things that Jane mentions are the fact that we saw two major releases (3.4 and 3.5) as well as updates to all of the native mobile platforms as well, like iOS,Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Nokia, and WebOS. The plugin directory was updated, the “Make” network with team reps have continued to be refined, the WordPress Community Summit came and went and a focus on even more […]
December, 2012: Month in Review
It’s my honor and privilege to be one of the editors of this newly minted blog and since we started earlier this month it’s been a pretty neat ride. Statistically it’s been an incredible start for a concept that was once just a simmering thought below the surface that bubbled enough (and long enough) to capture our attention toward execution, even if it wasn’t a perfect product out the gate. Here’s a top-level look at what we’ve accomplished in just 24 short days – not even a full calendar month! 130 published posts – that’s more than 5 posts a day! […]
BlogEasy for Mac OS X – Too Much for Too Little?
Since I shared one of the iOS apps that I’ve been trying out this year for my blogging needs I thought it would be worthwhile to share another one via Mac and OSX that is also fairly slick. This video overview should give you some bearings and then I’ll share some thoughts next:
Poster: An Elegant Editor for iOS
If you know me at all then you know I’m pretty obsessed with trying out new applications and anything that’ll make my publishing life easier. In fact, I’m willing to try out anything just to see if I can eek out a bit more performance and effectiveness in the limited amount of time that I’ve got. This past year has been an interesting year with WordPress native applications – there hasn’t really been a clear winner in my book and nothing that has “stuck” long enough for me to say, with dogmatism, this is the best WordPress native editor around. This […]
The Athletes Network
One of the things that makes WordPress such a viable option when it comes to building websites is its ability to serve as a true application framework. And those developers who are familiar with building true web applications can do amazing things when it comes to using WordPress. Part of the goal of WP Daily is to feature editorial content not only around events, news, interviews, and the like, but applications built on the platform as well. The Athletes Network is one such example.
Y U NO Responsive Layout on WP Daily?!
We’ve been called out a couple times already about not having a responsive layout here on WP Daily and it’s worth us addressing directly to our community that is obviously viewing our site here via mobile devices (which is a great thing!). The reason we don’t have a mobile ready / responsive layout is quite simple: We decided in late November that we’d rather launch early (before the holiday season and break) and test our “sea legs” sotospeak and begin to gather feedback from the community instead of launching later and having a more “robust” and “complete” package. We did […]
Your WordPress Team Reps for 2013
Jane Wells has finalized the counts and votes for Team Reps for each of the areas and it looks like we’ve got some final numbers and names for those that will be representing the WordPress community and development in 2013. We are still waiting on a few areas for commitment and finalization but we’ll update this list when those go through! Congrats to those that have been chosen and a big THANK YOU since your time and commitment to us and the greater WordPress community really matters a lot. And here they are:
Could WordPress Blogging Be More Simple a'la Feathers?
Although we’re passionate about all-things WordPress we keep an eye out on the competition and especially up-and-comers that seek to challenge the dominance of our beloved application. But it’s not that I’m against competition; in fact, I’m all for it because it moves the needle of innovation and it forces us to rethink and reconsider our options for the best publishing platform available to us. Things like Feathers which isn’t quite available yet to the general public but which suggests that publishing to the web could be made even more simple:
Jeff Starr Launches WP-Mix, Code Snippets and Tutorials
Jeff Starr of DigWP has announced the release of a new simple site that will showcase code snippets, tutorials, and other helpful WordPress-related development and design techniques. It’s called WP-Mix. It might be the next best resource for your continued development of a site or a chance to experiment even more with WordPress. This isn’t the only snippet site dedicated to WordPress related code but this one is laid out cleanly and has a nice card/tab layout that may appeal to certain people over just searching through archives.
5 Things to Blog About Before the New Year
This is one of the best times to do some quality writing as you may have an extended period of time off and some clarity of mind during this break and holiday season. We want to not just be a source of news and information surrounding WordPress – we want to inspire more people to publish online, publish more consistently, help create their own personal or professional brands, or to assist in generating great content for those that need it most. As such we’re going to start creating challenges for our community here to contribute to your motivation to write.
