It appears that yet again another large government site is being powered by WordPress – hopefully this one didn’t cost them millions of dollars – but at least the Republic of Colombia is using a free theme so perhaps they saved some cost there. They are using Dessign.net’s Font Folio Theme for their base style and look:

What We Can Learn From PyCon
By now you may have already encountered and/or read more than your fair share of the PyCon cluster-wah and how it all went down with developers, a “joke,” a picture, a tweet, and a technology evangelist. The net result of the Adria Richards vs “Dongles” was that she was relieved of her job at SendGrid as well as the developer who made the comment. For sure, this isn’t the first time that Adria Richards has publicly come forward and shared her perspective with others and I imagine it won’t be her last – for example, she once made this comment […]

Scribe tells you what search engines will see your post as being about. We’ve been using Scribe for three months, and we have seen an increase in traffic. That alone is probably enough to convince some bloggers. There are a few things to consider before laying out the money for this plugin, however.

One of the neat things about being a part of the WordPress community – in whatever capacity – is getting connected to other designers, developers, and bloggers in the space. Recently, Tareq Hasan contacted us about a plugin that he’s recently completed – WP User Frontend Pro.
Thoughts on Killing wp_tag_cloud()
I’ll just say it: I think tag clouds suck. At one point in time they were definitely seen as the cat’s pajamas, the soup du jour, and a general icon of the Web 2.0 movement (remember that?!). But now I think they have very little place in our economy – their usage statistics and engagement statistics are terrible. And sadly I would know since I used them heavily when they first came out and yet their click-through rates were paltry, to say the least. Not to mention that they were ugly as sin, and still are. There has never been […]
