Three WordCamps in three weekends? Seems a bit crazy but I did it: Miami, Orange County, and this past weekend, Denver. Here’s what I learned from Denver. Break Free of Your Assumptions “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.” – Isaac Asimov Our brains love to take complex ideas and simplify them so they are easier to understand. From what I’ve read, it is a primary driver in our species’ ability to survive. This is where our assumptions come from. Problem is, assumptions can be hard to break, and can […]

Security is an ongoing concern for the millions of users, developers, and enthusiasts who make up the WordPress space. And in recent times people are growing more concerned. In the realm of WordPress security, plugins are a viable option for providing protection to WordPress websites and blogs. The #1 WordPress security plugin is Better WP Security. iThemes Launches Exchange eCommerce
And there she is. We’ve gotten hints here and there that it would be coming soon and so late last night we received an early release version to try and test out (as well as the Stripe Add-on plugin). I booted it up on a local installation and I really liked what I saw – it’s what you might expect from an eCommerce plugin but from first glance it appears to be so much less than what the other options provide. Why? Because they’ve turned off many of the features that you can later turn-on that might cause too much […]
WPSessions: Learn How to Build a WP Business
We covered WPSessions previously and it seems like it’s gotten a great start so far with already one in the bag on WordPress plugins. Coming up is another great opportunity to learn and this time it’s with a great crew as well who kinda-sorta know what they are doing when it comes to building a WP-business: Join Chris Lema, Cory Miller, & Carl Hancock for a deep and informative look at how to build your business around WordPress. Learn how to take the plunge and start your startup, then grow it into a healthy team. The session will conclude with […]
iThemes Enters eCommerce Space with Exchange
The biggest news in the eCommerce space isn’t Shopify with their v2 being released yesterday but rather iThemes and their new entry in the growing shopping space with Exchange. And they were greeted with many votes of confidence and praise, even from existing competitors. As one person mentioned, this is what’s so great about the WordPress community because we can pat each other on the back despite our commercial interests: Competitors who treat each other with respect because they understand that the culture of the community they’re in doesn’t do competition the way other communities do it. iThemes on-going challenges will […]
Favoritism? WordPress.org Showcases Creative Market
I had a hard time understanding exactly what the stink was all about until I went to WordPress.org directly and saw that there is now a spot on the bottom left hand part promoting The Creative Market. A few people noticed citing “favoritism”:
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
Hope you guys had a great week! It’s already into March, can you believe it? We’re nearly 25% of the way through 2013. Someone pinch me, seriously, because it’s moving way too fast. Here’s your weekly rundown of what you may have missed that wasn’t explicitly covered here on WP Daily. Let us know if we missed anything or if we need to subscribe to a particular blog and what not! I think you should at least take a look at #3, $22, #24, and #26. Those are must-reads, especially #24 on remote management.
DradCast Has the World's Longest Intro, Ever
We’ve mentioned that DradCast was coming and it hasn’t even been two full weeks and they actually have two broadcasts in the can – nice! Using Google Hangouts they’ve recorded two episodes with Cory Miller and John Hawkins which have covered a host of topics, from theme development, GPL, the global economy, design, and more. It would be hard to pin-down exactly what each episode is succinctly about but that doesn’t really bother me at this time – I love the fresh flavor and conversation style of the work so far and how could you possibly go wrong with the world’s longest intro bumper ever? […]
