I am going to just say that this is not about cloud storage or content. So if you were hoping for a post about how to deal with or integrate with a cloud service for you blog then switch your brain from left to right for just a minute here. I hope you can find it helpful in dealing with common issues we all face in all aspects of our lives.
Quality and Growth Over Quantity
The days of yesterday. When there used to be jobs that were much more specific. Now they seem to be specific, but they ask you to do 10 things rather than one. Jobs are just asking for more from less people. The strong survive in the corporate world. What does this do? Well I for one feel it has taught me a ton about communication, but when it comes to my skills in creative work, nothing at work has really taught me anything or brought me progress.
What Matters Most: Numbers or Influence?
It has become quite apparently lately to me which is truly a winner in this battle and all of us already know this, but I want to share with you my personal testimony as to why it is and always will be true. Influence is most definitely what matters most. There seems to be this premature obsession with gaining popularity or numbers to reach what you “think” are your goals, but with time I like to believe that all of us realize what a true and admirable goal can really be. Let me first tell you my story of victory of influence […]
Lend a Hand and Everyone Benefits
Don’t miss opportunities… The last few weeks have been a lot of me lending a hand to friends both old and new. I like to think that I am living proof that doing work for free in fact does get you somewhere since the work I did for free landed me my current salary job. Whether it builds up your portfolio, helps you meet and create new relationships with like minded people, or teaches you so much more than a book, a classroom, or a blog post. It doesn’t mean you should stop reading this though. (Way to […]
Fear is Not the Only Enemy
Back to the Future… So why the heck would I caption this “back to the future?” Well, let me explain. Today I decided to head back to my old blog that I did on blogger (which totally sucked btw….WP FTW!), and try to find some old photos for show notes for my new podcast Photo Drives. We recorded an episode about how we got started in photography or where we came from with our work. What is interesting is that I ran across a post I wrote on Christmas Eve in 2010 about comfort. It really resonated with me today just […]
What Makes a Good Desktop Background?
I am not a professional graphic designer, but I love design. I love logos, color schemes, the balance of positive and negative space, I love all that stuff. I have always dabbled in making logos and graphics for shirts and such, but I was never the kind of guy to dive into illustrator and really devote my time and energy to it. I just didn’t have the time because I was concentrating so much more on photography and video. Luckily all of those things share the same compositional rules in many aspects. Desktop backgrounds can be a photograph or a […]
Keep Bad Habits at Bay: Stay Productive
It has been quite an eventful and productive last few weeks for me both at work and at home. Whether its a project at work or a personal project, sometimes you have time to kill when waiting for a response or the “go ahead” to complete something. Those are times when we can try to catch up on other things. Surprisingly enough, I have found that my habits of cleanliness or having an organized area truly effect my work habits in an overall sense. I have gotten a lot more done, in my mind, which means less stress and more […]
Why Personal Projects Matter
There are many things that I have always wanted to do with my life and I am glad I finally found to do something I love and get paid to do it. When it comes to personal projects, those things seem to get put on the back burner for many of us. I have found that those personal projects are more significant to us than any of our regular work. They really push us because we actually care about them. It doesn’t really matter what it is we do, whether we are athletes, engineers, photographers or bloggers, its about being […]
Tips on Building a Great Team Around a Blog
Over the last few months I have had the pleasure of being a writer for WP Daily and it started to make me realize how important team work really is. Not only that, but the affect it is having on the blogging community. I have found great respect for John Saddington and his entire team as he leads all of us here to be an influence to all bloggers. I am a photographer and videographer and I follow many photo and video blogs pretty religiously because I am always wanting to learn about what is new and want to have […]
Perspective Change: Bad Days are Great Opportunities
All of us have had bad weeks and last week I had one of those myself. You ever find that everything you do seems to backfire on you? I just couldn’t get out of the cycle! Whether it had to do with work, family, friends, school or a personal project, we’ve all been there. That is life. The craziest part about it is that its where we learn the most, but its usually never a conscious realization. We are extremely uncomfortable when we are stressed out, receive bad news, or can’t quite figure out why, when, or how. It’s almost […]
