Happy Thursday! I have a ton of new themes to share with all of you in today’s roundup. There’s 9 themes in all, check them out after the jump!
Ryu is now available for WP.org sites
Ryu is a great, minimalist theme that many personal bloggers choose. It allows you to use WordPress without all the extra clutter and chrome many themes have. Best of all, it’s now available for WordPress.org sites in the official theme directory. It’s a theme built by Automattic to focus on clutter-free blogging for folks who just want to focus on content, and not other things cluttering their site on sidebars, etc. Some widget options are available as well, but they don’t take a way from the minimalist feel of the theme at all.
I Will Never Fork WordPress
There’s been a handful of posts this week that have focused on the theory and possibility of forking WordPress. Instead of reacting immediately to some of the posts I’ve spent a bit of time in introspection reading these posts and asking myself if I would ever, myself, seriously consider forking WordPress. What I’ve come away is pretty clear and I’ll go ahead and say it for the record (as if the title of this blog post didn’t give that away): I will never fork WordPress. I will spend a little bit of time explaining my position as follows:
Your Passions May Not Work Well as a Blog
I had to share this today because I’ve encountered far too many people emailing me over my lifetime asking me the question of whether or not one should follow their passions in terms of their blog. In other words, they are asking me whether or not they should blog about their passions and whether that’s the right path to go so as to achieve success. Although you’ve heard that you should follow your passions and that your passions will keep your blog fresh with new ideas and a never-ending flow of community development and posts and strategy and, of course, […]
Inject Plugin: Strange Name, Potentially Helpful?
Today we’re taking a look at a new plugin from the folks at Netcodes. It’s called Inject. The idea behind Inject is to help give WordPress Designers and Developers more flexibility when creating custom sites. Essentially what Inject does is allow you to reuse dynamic content on your WordPress site wherever you want to put it with no extra PHP files. From within the plugin itself you can create your own custom page templates using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, avoiding PHP all together. The examples they give on their site, a portfolio, fancy author box, post list, gallery and slider […]
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 5.8.2013
Happy #humpday everyone! Wow, that day really flew by for me. How about you guys? Almost forgot to share these new and updated plugins with you guys. There’s quite a few. Check them out after the jump!
SpyBar, ORLY? Facepalm.
I’ve seen a bit of coverage on other sites recently about this premium browser (Firefox, Chrome) extension that’ll *gasp* show you what’s really going on under the hood of someone’s WordPress website. It’s called SpyBar by Rob Cornish, an acclaimed “internet entrepreneur” who’s bringing you such a sweet deal. What the extension does is simply scans the site and pulls up the sites’ plugins and themes that it uses, thus giving you an “inside” look at what is going on and the things the site owner is using. I suppose that’s why it’s called the “SpyBar”… here’s a very long […]
VaultPress: New 'Lite' Plan @ $5 per Month
This has been a long time coming! When VaultPress first arrived on the scenes one of most common reactions from bloggers (of all sizes) was: Ugh, $15 per month? I can’t do that! Well they just made their incredible service much more in reach of the average blogger and consumer by dropping into a $5.00 per month plan that they are calling ‘Lite’. I think this makes complete sense and I believe that scaling in this way will see an incredible increase of subscriptions and users.
Usersnap: Get Valuable Feedback from Your Users
Ever gotten an email from one of your users or readers about a typo or other error on your site? Then, ever had trouble finding where exactly that error is based on their description? If you answered yes to those questions, you should look at Usersnap. Usersnap allows you to insert a small feedback button on your site to allow users to send feedback directly from the page they find an error on, or just want to tell you something about. But, that’s not even the best part. Users can highlight words, take screenshots, and insert sticky notes onto the […]
