On February 5th, a CEO announced they were bringing their distributed team back into a single location. The reason made sense as he shared some of the reasons why (emphasis mine): [W]e are spending more time together to make even better progress on our core products. No, this wasn’t Yahoo. It was John Saddington and his team – you know, the folks behind this web site here.
Extendd: A Growing Plugin Marketplace?
Marketplaces for WordPress themes and plugins aren’t going anywhere – in fact, we’ll probably see 100 more crop up this year at least with a few of them really coming into prominence. I’m not opposed to that as competition is a good thing that forces everyone to innovate and press even harder to create more value. I especially like it when I see individuals who create their own marketplaces based out of their own need. For example, Austin Passy is smart – he went about creating a marketplace for his growing line of plugins and taking that extra step of branding […]
Hello Dolly: Episode 4: I Don't Think You're Ready For This Jelly
It’s been a little while since our last episode – though we’re aiming for a couple of episodes per month (well, at least one per month), we’ve been heads down working on Standard and getting ready for WordCamp Atlanta. To that point, we spend a bit of time talking about WordCamp Atlanta and some of the meetups happening around the area during the weekend where we’d all love to hang with you guys. Of course, we talk about a lot more in the episode, as well.
Daily Theme & Plugin Roundup – 3.7.2013
Happy Thursday! I’ve got a new theme and some new and updated plugins to share on today’s roundup. I took a little spin on the Attitude theme preview site. It looks a lot like the Twenty Twelve theme, just a bit more simple. Nicely done! Here’s the full list:

The Rise of the (Lame) Theme Directory
I love the fact that people spend time to send up news and tips every single day (if not every single minute) – we spend a lot of time sifting through the tips and vetting them for value for our readers. What I’m not happy about is all the genuinely crappy (*stronger word available here*) sites that we get pitched that have almost no value to us nor our readers nor to the human race at large. Ok, sure, being a bit over-the-top on that last line but the point is that I’m tired of seeing copy-cat sites regurgitate failed strategies […]
UI, GUI PSDs for Your Next iOS App
I’m in the middle of building a small WordPress-centric iOS app and I’ve been plugging silently away at it for the last few months. Actually, it’s been brewing for almost six months now but it’s been in active development for about three. It’s not public (yet) and I’m still not sure where it’ll land but I’m actively wire-framing, concepting, and laying the groundwork for it from a development perspective. As a result, I’m bumping up against sweet resources (both paid and free) that might be useful for some of you, even if you’re not looking to do any iOS application […]
Got an Opinion? Blog It, Don't Just Tweet It.
Sometimes I really hate Twitter. For all that it is it’s still very limited in many, many ways, especially when trying to hash out or discuss opinions. Or have an argument (or two). It’s just not healthy and it’s far too contextually-unaware for my taste. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve used Twitter as a platform for argument and it’s never worked out very well. You may be better suited, but oh no, not me. It just fails in that way. That’s why I much prefer blog posts. It’s cleaner, more concise, more accurate, and can be edited post-publication […]
A Review of WooCommerce 2.0
WooThemes just released WooCommerce 2.0, their ever popular eCommerce plugin for WordPress. They added a variety of new features in the new version ranging from improved security (approved by Sucuri) to advanced inventory management. All of these features make WordPress a more viable candidate as a platform to develop a fully-featured eCommerce site. As a result, I want to take a personal look at it and give you my thoughts from on some of the major features and why it may be time to take a serious look at it, if you already haven’t.
Adii Pienaar on Culture and Building WooThemes
Adii Pienaar took some time out with The East Wing and talked about how he got started with computers, his constant tinkering with new ideas, how culture impacts a great business, and how this played into the development of WooThemes. I love this interview because it really provided a lot of backstory for how it got started (with Mark Forrester and Magnus Jepson). Take a listen after the jump:
