Now this is a neat addition – ShopLocket, a simple way to sell “anything” from a website, is now partnered with WordPress.com enabling blog and site owners to sell, well, “anything” from their own sites. To enable this brave new world of blog-based e-commerce, ShopLocket has introduced a WordPress plugin that will enable users of the platform to quickly make their goods available on their sites. With the integration, WordPress.com Enterprise and VIP users will be able to easily embed items for sale anywhere they wish to, whether that be in posts, separate pages, or even through various sidebars on […]
My Experience of Squarespace [Screencast]
We’ve been getting a lot of questions recently about Squarespace and whether or not it’s a worthwhile investment of time and exploration – and a contender to WordPress blogging. Well, although I’ve known about Squarespace for quite some time and even though I’ve recommended to some customers that they take a look at it in earnest, I’ve never dived deeply into it myself since I’ve been so focused on WordPress. Well, when Squarespace announced their entry into eCommerce adding Stripe integration, a big love of ours here at 8BIT, I knew I had to check it out. Apparently Squarespace has some […]
Product Pier: eCommerce Hosting via WooCommerce
We briefly referenced Product Pier on a Weekend Roundup, a hosted eCommerce solution that has yet to be fully revealed, and we went ahead and signed up for some updates so as to stay in the loop as they continue to develop the system out. Paul Brody, one of the founders, recently sent out a request for more information so that they can build the best product possible as well as sharing more information about where they are headed: Our core passion at ProductPier is to help other entrepreneurs and in this regard, specifically entrepreneurs within the eCommerce space. The […]
The WordPress Weekend Roundup
Yikes. It’s been a busy Saturday and I’m finally getting around to compiling our weekly review of content that we didn’t get to cover explicitly over the last 7 days. In a good way I’m glad as I spent most of my time today with family. Soccer games, a date with one of my daughters, and then the park with my other one has left me spent. I hope your weekend has been as eventful as mine already as well!
A Review of WooCommerce 2.0
WooThemes just released WooCommerce 2.0, their ever popular eCommerce plugin for WordPress. They added a variety of new features in the new version ranging from improved security (approved by Sucuri) to advanced inventory management. All of these features make WordPress a more viable candidate as a platform to develop a fully-featured eCommerce site. As a result, I want to take a personal look at it and give you my thoughts from on some of the major features and why it may be time to take a serious look at it, if you already haven’t.
WooCommerce 2.0: It's Here!
First off, congrats to the WooCommerce team that has been working incredibly hard to release such a significant update as a 2.0! The release contains an incredibly amount of improvements and features that make it a serious contender in the growing list of eCommerce and commerce-centric payment gateway solutions. It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I like the best out of the newly minted 2.0, especially because I’ve been using it with smaller projects and even client work, not to mention even using it for 8BIT as a solution, but I’m loving the idea of increased security auditing by Sucuri.

Squarespace Adds Commerce via Stripe Integration
Squarespace is one application that we, as a community around WordPress, need to stay abreast of because they are building something both impressive and innovative. Recently they released an ecommerce portion to their offering that really brings their blogging solution into a much more impressive sphere: Giving our customers the ability to manage and sell products on their websites has been the most requested Squarespace feature of all time. Thanks to the powerful architecture of Squarespace 6, we’ve built a truly integrated commerce solution that gives our customers amazing power and flexibility within a single platform. With seamless integration with […]
Impressed: My First Look at Tackk
Tackk is one of those web applications that when I first heard about it and tried it out I was nearly offended about how easy it was to start creating content. In fact, there was no buffer between me and my first engagement and the publication layer at all – you instantly get hit with a demo area and are asked to start playing around. But I realized that this was a brilliant way of getting new users to understand explicitly how the software works and how it can help them start building a simple page of interactive content. What the […]
WooCommerce to Go Hosted Platform?
This morning many people were greeted with an interesting question posed by Adii of WooThemes: We’re toying with the idea of building a hosted version of WooCommerce, which has all the benefits of a downloadable product (flexible, customizable templating) along with the benefits of a 1-click setup experience. So we’d essentially take care of all the work & you’d just start with the customization and implementation of your project’s goals. Instead of once-off costs (which is the case with WooCommerce themes & extensions now), we’ll have different monthly pricing plans which will include access to various themes & extensions. Direct […]
