Big news for Code Garage (and super kudos) as they have been recently acquired by VaultPress which is a relatively similar service in so far as providing backups, security scanning, and assistance for customers in their greatest time of need (e.g. crisis mode when their blog goes down). Peter Butler, one of the founders of Code Garage, will be joining Automattic in this acquisition as well. Matt Mullenweg states that this is a strategic move because the Code Garage team will be able to bring a lot of their experiences that VaultPress can learn from: We think we can bring a […]
Beau Lebens Interviewed on Developer Resources
A new feature of the WordPress.com Developer Resources blog is the fact that they are now highlighting particular people in an interview segment that I hope will continue fairly regularly. Beau Lebens is the first up and he shares how he first got started with WordPress by launching a startup based on WordPress MU and bbPress for scrapbooking fans (clever!). He then moved to Mashable (yes, that blog) and then over to Automattic. I think some of the best part is his advice to aspiring young people who are interested in learning about WordPress and software development: Dive right in. […]

Danilo Ercoli has just announced the release of 1.8.1 so you should able to download it via the store. This release fixes 10 bugs that have been related to crashes in the previous version, namely when translation files had an empty string, layout issues in HTC 8X, and double image issues when saving a post. A complete list is avaiable on trac. So, what’s next and up on deck for 1.9? Featured images, editor improvements, and a few more that’ll make you smile. Keep it up guys and thanks for your hard work!
Cristi Burca: Moving to Jekyll
Cristi Burca, a senior WordPress developer at AppThemes and WordPress core contributor recently shared that he’s been not only experimenting with Jekyll, another blogging alternative that favors those that have a bit more development background: WordPress is about democratizing publishing; that is to say it’s meant to be easy to use by anyone, whether they have technical knowledge or not. Jekyll, in contrast, is designed to appeal to developers. It allows you to treat your content as source code, employing familiar tools such as text editors and version control systems. Does this mean that all that hard work with over […]
Pagely Updates Interface, Launches Referral System
Page.ly, one of the more well-known hosted solutions for WordPress, has recently announced a significant update to their Atomic interface, which is their central interface for their customers, sporting large icons and a more intuitive user experience. In addition, they’ve announced a new referral system along with a new billing credit system that I imagine their customers will start using since it’ll save them money if they use it on their subscription. But it’s the referral system that’s going to get a lot of airtime as customers start referring their friends and people within their network to use the service.
